no matter what happens, the period of the bush administration is finally about to end. phew.

but the fact that there was a second bush term i found, and still find, to be incomprehensible. and i think that, more than anything else, undermined any sense i might have had left that americans are in general able to face reality, think about what's happening, and make coherent choices. so i am somehow not able to entirely believe that what i take to be a catastrophic error will not happen--and that error would be electing another republican administration after 8 years of republicans and the dire straits they have generated. so i'll go to the ridiculous voting place in this tiny massachusetts town and do my bit and hope for the best.

on the other hand, i cannot remember a campaign that was longer and the media coverage of which was more appallingly stupid. that it is nearly over, and more routine stupidity can soon be resumed, is on it's own reason to be cheerful.

jittery but optimistic i guess it reduces to.

what makes you nervous?
what gives you reason to be optimistic?
how are you balancing these aspects?

and what are you planning to do as you await the results?
is there really any reason we have to know by the morning of the 5th what's happened? do you expect we will?

I've got a whole slew of Thermal Environmental Engineering homework that ought to see me through to the wee hours of Wednesday morning. It will be good to be distracted from what might be a nervous night.

I am looking forward to not seeing Al Franken and Norm Coleman's faces whenever I turn on the TV.

I'm going to have a quiet and pleasant evening tonight, and I'm going to take the afternoon to exercise and such tomorrow. I voted, so I'm done worrying about it until Wednesday morning. If Obama wins, super. If McCain wins, I'll cross that bridge Wednesday.

We've all earned a holiday from this.

I might watch the results on TV. I'm curious to see how it turns out. Polls can be misleading, as we all should know.

No matter who wins, it will be an interesting next few years.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to note: If McCain does win, I have reason to believe that the "system" in America is broken beyond repair. That is my worry. That is my perspective as an outsider. I'm sure I'm not alone. Call that doom & gloom; I don't care.

My boyfriend is attempting to finish off all of his thermodynamics and fluid dynamics homework prior to 6pm tomorrow evening, or at least get far enough that he can take a break without a guilty conscience before recitations on Thursday.

I'm looking forward to it all being done and over with, honestly. I am a bit tired of this election cycle. Our Senate race is hot and heavy right now, and that's keeping me on edge. I'd love to see Gordon Smith unseated. So I will wait impatiently for tomorrow.

Like Snow above I am edgy, and I too would like to see that same senator unseated. It is the presidential election though that has me on the edge of my seat. I do want to know on 11/05, when I wake up in the morning, who is the man representing me to the world. I want to open my paper with breath held, after putting my cup down. I want to breathe a sigh of relief.

Its important to me, and I think it is for all of us with this particular election, after the last couple of fiascos.

Agreed! I'm still on the fence of what to do tomorrow. Its my day off, and I only have access to TV/Internet at work currently. Do I do my normal night off routine which involves only being around a tv when I go to eat? Or, do I come into work when the polls start closing, make phone calls to friends and family and joke about the whole thing? I could give my roommate a break from my normal night off of having my reading lamp on and reading for hours on end?

I think I just decided for myself. I'll come in when the polls start closing, and go from there.

I'm nervous right now because i'm trying to line up people to work the polls with me tomorrow. I will be in an insurance office/polling place all day tomorrow, from 6ish to when the results are calculated. Then i phone them in and get on the phone to people out west. I don't think i'm going to bother phoning people in Hawai'i or Alaska, so at some point i think we'll head to a bar.

That's how I felt last night, too!! Genuine anticipation and hope... HOPE... that this time, we won't get the asshat for president (and yes, I voted Obama, so in my case the asshat = McCain). Ktsp and I stayed up late talking about how exciting it would be to have an Obama presidency... he will take his vows as a citizen under that administration... such a perfect time to be moving back to the US... but oh, how very, very depressing it will be if Obama doesn't win!!! So I am also on pins and needles, couldn't sleep...

It's just before 9am here in Iceland, which is 4am on the East Coast. We still have a long ways to go before we start getting wind of exit polls, and even longer before most of the votes will be talled. The American Embassy has invited us (and all Americans in the country) to the biggest hotel tonight, for a reception/free wine fest from 9pm to 11pm (4pm to 6pm east coast--not really late enough to get anything substantial, but oh well). We'll be up all night waiting for the rest of the returns... most likely not sleeping at all. We barely slept for each of the 4 debates broadcast here at 1am-3am... you think we're gonna miss this one?!!

Enjoy savoring two tins of canned octopus along with some very good red beer.

I feel strangely calm and not nervous.

I am going to enjoy some Reddenbacher popped corn as well.

I will be spending the day at work today watching the election results as they come in (we are 13 hours ahead of New York). Just about everyone in my office is eager to see how this comes out (and the majority of them are locals anf none are American).

well, i did my little action of voting. in this silly little town, there are 2700 registered voters--at 5:30, i was number 1970.

boundary condition: i get hangovers way too easily.

the way i figure it, this feels like a job for a bottle of scotch.
