There is much left to try;
Despite what you don't know,
Look beyond even the sky.

If you don't at least think,
Or, better, go and show,
How can you say you'll try?

We fear we'll only sink:
We all pace to and fro,
Yet forever there is sky.

Give a grin and a wink—
Say you'll give it a go:
We all should at least try.

Sometimes we tend to shrink,
And hang our heads down low—
Shelter from the rain-filled sky.

Type it out or use ink;
Get it out row by row.
If you don't even try,
You will never touch the sky.

I'm a social democrat

Posted 08-30-2008 at 07:29 AM by Baraka_Guru (Baraka_Blog)

This I believe:
  • Welfare generally does more good than harm to people.
  • Health care should be a public service.
  • Free trade is a dangerous thing.
  • Taxation should be used to ensure the adequate funding of public services.
  • Education is a right and should be accessible to everyone.
  • Artists are just as important to society as businesspeople.
  • People who make money have an obligation to contribute to society.
  • The rich are not overtaxed in a graduated tax system.
  • The people's access to drugs should be regulated by a health ministry.
  • Unions generally help protect the rights and privileges of workers.
  • The government should regulate the price of heating resources to keep them affordable.
  • Social security should always be a public service.
  • The government is obligated to provide for the poor.
  • Free market economies create few winners and many losers.
  • Labour laws are a necessary challenge for business owners to manage.
  • The redistribution of wealth ultimately benefits

Apples

I say what I want
Doing what I want as well
I admire you

Oranges

You are fulfilling
Trying to please everyone
You are resentful

The Moon Dreamed

Posted 08-29-2008 at 06:35 AM by Baraka_Guru (Baraka_Blog)
Updated 08-29-2008 at 06:39 AM by Baraka_Guru

The moon dreamed of the night I would finally visit
her at that vast sky of a window which I pass by in short intervals of busyness.
In those brief obscure moments, I sometimes accidentally see her,
usually on that crest of colour between day and night.
My mind balks at the sight of her as I continue on my impulsive way.
I often place her into my half-conscious landscape, and she blends
in like a set piece.

As the months pass, the moon will do her work,
and I will do mine.

It was too late by the time I learned the summer had fallen ill.
The autumn sighed at my indifference.

I'm hella busy—what the hell happened?!

I can't believe how busy I am! It seems that out of nowhere, I've taken on four clients for freelance work. Um, this is a big deal.

At the end of last year, I cautiously put myself out there as a freelance editor. I got a membership with the Editors' Association of Canada, put up a website, hooked up a cell phone, and printed some business cards.

Although I did some basic Web marketing, such as SEO, registering to a few business directories, and such, very little had happened for several months. My first client (who's a sweetheart), had me work on her beautiful photo/poetry book she self-published and credited me as the project editor, which is cool because now I appear as such on Amazon.com. She's been a return client, too, as now she is publishing articles based on the book—a very sound marketing strategy. She's grateful for what I do, and she's good to work with. I couldn't have asked for a better first client.

I then had a negative experience,...
