I can't believe how busy I am! It seems that out of nowhere, I've taken on four clients for freelance work. Um, this is a big deal.
At the end of last year, I cautiously put myself out there as a freelance editor. I got a membership with the Editors' Association of Canada, put up a website, hooked up a cell phone, and printed some business cards.
Although I did some basic Web marketing, such as SEO, registering to a few business directories, and such, very little had happened for several months. My first client (who's a sweetheart), had me work on her beautiful photo/poetry book she self-published and credited me as the project editor, which is cool because now I appear as such on Amazon.com. She's been a return client, too, as now she is publishing articles based on the book—a very sound marketing strategy. She's grateful for what I do, and she's good to work with. I couldn't have asked for a better first client.
