A friend was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning. He awoke in the middle of the night coughing up blood. Turns out he has pneumonia. It was supposed to just be overnight, but for some reason, he's going to be kept for at least a couple days.

He works part time and has no private insurance. Who's paying for the hospital stay? The state, Medicaid. Seems like there's a public option that already exists.

    Hope he's Ok. Best wishes.

Mmmm, yea that "public option" is why the number one reason for BR in the US is illness and unexpected health care cost.

Hope your friend feels better soon, Cyn.

It's unfair. If you are destitute, you get a free ride, but if you are a hard working individual scratching out a living, paying your bills, and with marginal insurance, you get driven into bankruptcy. The system has nor provision for helping the "middle class" through medical emergencies. Those constitute the only marks on my credit report. Bastards....

Thanks guys. It looks like he will be fine, but we had to sit in the room with him with medical masks on just as a precaution. We'll see in a few days, they want to keep him until Tuesday.
