KROQ - Rock of the 80's station ID
If you didn't grow up in LA in the 80's, you may have only heard of this radio station as the starting point for many people like Adam Carolla, Jimmy Kimmel, Kennedy, Carson Daly, or a show called Loveline, with Dr. Drew.
KROQ was the most eclectic radio play I have ever heard. The closest thing to it today is finding a decent college radio station, but even then, unless the DJ is really interesting, it's boring.
KROQ was just a nothing station at the time and it started breaking bands. Different djs brought different music forward from New Wave to Reggae to Ska to just deep cuts of known rock artists like Rolling Stones and Iggy Pop.
Now, I'd say that maybe it would be like today's JACK-FM, but that would be offensive since JACK-FM is just total shit and there's no thread to make the music come to life or have cohesion.
