Blueberry picking in Maine

Posted 08-18-2008 at 12:12 PM by Cynthetiq (Cynthetiq's Ramblings)

It was such a long drive on Friday. We didn't leave until about 4pm, due to needing to run a couple of errands. It put us smack dab in the middle of home traffic as we got to Stamford CT. The 6 hour drive took about 8 it seemed since we didn't get there until after 1AM.

We were woken up by the screaming and shrilling of 2 little girls ages 3 (going on 4) and 2 at around 7 AM.

It was the first time we'd really seen Mac and Janet since they moved from So. Philly/NJ to Maine. Both of them have very different viewpoints towards society which somewhat clash with ours but that's a different discussion.

It is beautiful country up there. They have a nice 4 bedroom house on a hill that overlooks Belgrade Lake.

They don't have cable TV, no internet, lots of reading and boardgames. Now this isn't because so much they live in the country, but more about their value system. They didn't have either in So Philly/NJ.

It rained...

Planning

Posted 08-12-2008 at 01:29 PM by Cynthetiq (Cynthetiq's Ramblings)

The other week we fleshed out some more plans for the coming months.

We have no plans for Thanksgiving, Christmas or my birthday. We had used our timeshare to go to Puerto Rico in Feb so we had no worries about booking something else for the rest of the year.

We are going to Maine this weekend to visit Skogafoss' best friend. They now have 3 kids. This will be interesting since I'm not sure how it will be. We've not seen them in a few years now.

Next trip after that is Labor Day weekend, Las Vegas for 3 days. It will be a short trip but punctuated by us visiting the new house.

I'm getting concerned as we've not heard about any inquiries to people wanting to rent the house, then again, he doesn't tell us anything until there is someone interested.

Next trip planned is Budapest, Hungary at the end of January 2009.

We've got to plan Iceland again soon I think, and this time again another round the...

Long Sunday

Posted 08-10-2008 at 07:58 PM by Cynthetiq (Cynthetiq's Ramblings)

Today was a rather long day. We got up early for a screening of Star Wars: Clone Wars. It was interesting and put us in a part of town we don't normally go. It was just REALLY early like a 10AM screening and we needed to be there are 9AM.

Most construction and repairs on the subways happen on the weekeneds. What should be a simple ride that takes 45 minutes during a weekday can take about 1 hour 30 minutes on the weekends due to less trains and maintenance. We had breakfast at a little coffee shop called 3 Star Coffee Shop on 86th and Columbus. Funny, why do you name yourself 3 Star and not 4 or 5 Star? It's like some Chinese restaurants that are named, Good Food instead of Best Food.

Anyways, the movie was okay. Worth getting up for a couple of reasons, one it was free. Two to learn that AMC has matinees before 12PM Fri-Sun for $6. They open at 9AM and have showings starting at 9:30AM.

After the movie we stopped at one of my favorite linen...

The Toilet, written by Amiri Baraka

Posted 08-07-2008 at 06:11 PM by Cynthetiq (Cynthetiq's Ramblings)

Went to this play in the park. It was a bit more than I thought it would be. The playwright was in attendance and spoke after the performance. It was pretty controversial for it's time, and it's still quite edgy.

I love living in the city. We were home withn 5 minutes of the play being over.

The Toilet, written by Amiri Baraka and directed by Rony Clanton, is a riveting play that chronicles what happens when a young homosexual boy sends a love letter to the leader of a school gang. Set in the bathroom of an urban high school, the play has been described as “shockingly scatological” and describe the themes of marginalization, self-hatred, and love that are so often threads of Baraka’s work.

The Toilet contains adult language and content intended for mature audiences.
