Two Sundays ago something extraordinary happened with music ministry.
Our folk group met at our usual 8:30am time. Tt and I were there, warming up voices, tuning instruments. The psalm Bo and Jo chose for the worship was a "new" one. It's from the usual songbook, but our soloists hadn't heard it before. It sounded pretty. It was catchy. It was in my range. I memorized the tune quickly the first time I heard it. Mi didn't know it, it was out of his range. Li had lost her voice. I piped in "Since it's new to everyone, I might as well sing it."
Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared.
"You sure you're comfortable with this?" Bo asked. She and Jo know my voice well, but they also know how timid I am when I'm singing with the group, how intimidated I get. But they perform with me at the nursing home where the audience is small but appreciative. They know what my voice can do. Jo is telling me...
