Don't download keygens.

So after reinstalling a nice programming tool called TextPad, I realized that it was no longer registered so I was occasionally bothered by a 'register now!' box. My roommate had previously found a working key for it, so I figured I could do the same.
Proceed to download keygen for it.
Proceed to install.
Proceed to realize the registry has been erased.
...
Factory resets are such a flippin pain in the butt.

Wow. It managed to f up the computer so bad that the hard drive is irrecoverable.
...
I mean, I know I have full warranty blah blah blah but COME ON T_T.
EDIT: Evidently the next step is to try a low level reformat after scanning the hard drive to make sure that it is still in operable condition (not short-circuited?)Posted 12-29-2008 at 01:57 PM by Jozrael

Harddrive wasn't physically mauled, just the contents so badly the BIOS could no longer even recognize it. Plus.
So a low level wipe reduced it to a really, really long set of 0s.
Then reinstalled the Rescue and Recovery environment ThinkVantage has (god I love it, so friggin useful), and now I'm on to the Program Recovery discs (basically reinstalling Windows and some basics).
A winnar is me, dirty virus-writer!
I mean, letting aside the fact that he wasted my entire day on this :\.Posted 12-29-2008 at 07:05 PM by Jozrael
