Wicked and surviving driving in NY

Posted 04-03-2009 at 07:42 AM by ngdawg

We left the house at 4:10, having our appointment with the House Manager of the Gershwin at 6:30. I figured better safe than sorry and if we got into midtown early, we'd have time to eat.
We got in at 6:05. The trip is 39 miles. The Lincoln Tunnel entrance is insane!! Four lanes down to two and no one gives an inch. Bus drivers are the worst, hugging bumper to bumper without so much as breathing space so that no cars can squeeze between them. A truck driver did the same, laughing at his "accomplishment". Finally through the tunnel, a cop waved us to the right...I had to go left, but at least the streets in Manhattan are designed for such inevitabilities.
Once in Manhattan, it is very important that you leave all rules you've been taught about driving behind. Do as they do-swerve, cut in, come within inches of wiping out pedestrians or hitting taxis. It's every man or woman for themselves there. I made it to 52nd St and left my car in the capable hands of...

Taking the kids to see Wicked in NY tomorrow night. A friend's son is the chief electrician at the Gershwin Theatre and will be giving my son(and me and my daughter) a "tour" of backstage, how things work, etc.
I'll drive in since there's a parking deck one block over. If you've ever been to the Port Authority, you'd understand why I'm driving. That place is creepy in daylight, never mind going to catch a bus at 11pm.

I worked 3 days at the studio for cash-it was like I never left.

It always happens this way

First, I get a call from the bosslady. She wants me to come in next week for a couple of days and will pay me cash. That works.
Next, about 10 minutes later, I get a call from the gallery that sells my posters. She wants 4.
Feast or famine....it has a ring of truth.

Spent 5 days in Bristol, got back Tuesday night. I love being down there, but I missed my shower. My friend's shower stall is tiny and her towels are too fluffy. And that's all I have to complain about.

Add another brick to the sinking boat, why don'tcha...

Losing my job-$1200
Mortgage increase-$300

Now our lovely state wants to increase property taxes an average of $100 a month.

It's not enough that we've lost $1500 when we were barely making it with two incomes.

Quitting smoking is something I have to do to save money and something I'm afraid to do for a number of reasons. I don't smoke $1500 a month, at least....but with the federal and state levying more sin taxes, it'll sure seem like it.

*sigh*
