We left the house at 4:10, having our appointment with the House Manager of the Gershwin at 6:30. I figured better safe than sorry and if we got into midtown early, we'd have time to eat.
We got in at 6:05. The trip is 39 miles. The Lincoln Tunnel entrance is insane!! Four lanes down to two and no one gives an inch. Bus drivers are the worst, hugging bumper to bumper without so much as breathing space so that no cars can squeeze between them. A truck driver did the same, laughing at his "accomplishment". Finally through the tunnel, a cop waved us to the right...I had to go left, but at least the streets in Manhattan are designed for such inevitabilities.
Once in Manhattan, it is very important that you leave all rules you've been taught about driving behind. Do as they do-swerve, cut in, come within inches of wiping out pedestrians or hitting taxis.
