Short post because I want to get to bed. Had a good day today, it was orientation and I picked up my books and got some important info about the program like hours and etc

Started packing for my trip on thursday, It's going to be fantastic. I thought I would miss a bunch of class (3 days) but now it's seeming like i'm only missing 1 day (friday) as monday being labor day means no school. It definitely takes the pressure off, although I will have to play some catch up.

I've got classes tomorrow, they begin at 8AM and i'm biking there so I need to leave at 7:15. 45 mins to get ready means a 6:30 start and 7 and a half hours of sleep. It should be enough, if not i'll snooze a bit and grab a quick breakfast instead of oatmeal or whatever.

Went to a gear up orientation at NAIT today. Picked up my ID card but didn't learn anything new. Afterwards though there was a concert featuring a great local band, Radioforhelp, and Tokyo Police Club. Both sounded great live, which after listening to Golden Dogs live I was grateful for. Got myself a spiffy autographed T-shirt for like 20$ which is fantastic, it's really nice and classy.

After the show I had a chance to talk with Tokyo Police Club and shoot the shit a bit, talked about their UK tour and how everyone there at their shows just wanted an excuse to fight. :D

Here's a photo of TPC, typical band on stage pic but whatevs. (original 3.2 megapixel images are 2048x1600 or somethings) might not be the limit of the phone though, i didn't check. The next was a better photo, of radioforhelp.

That should be enough for tonight, i'll toss some stuff up tomorrow.

I just got back from work, i'm really exhausted. I've been doing odd jobs around the farm of a client of my mothers' stables. Her husband became sick with cancer and passed away about 8 months ago and I guess things have been piling up. I guess she's felt really overwhelmed about the whole thing. But i've been doing work there for two days now and i've made a lot of progress fixing the place up. Some things i've done:

- Cemented in the mailbox on the drive
- Cut down 7 dead trees and then chopped em up into firewood
- Cut down bushes and grass around then Painted a Barn (it was a small barn)
- Landscaped a few flower beds around the house, edging, rotor tilling, prepping, laying fabric down, mulch etc etc
- Fixed the fax machine
- Cleaned her truck
- Washed the windows around the house

I feel like andy rooney. There were a half dozen other things but they were small or else i'd probably remember them now.

And with the HTC Diamond, i'm having a few issues. Most of it is great, as a music player it sounds like any mp3 player, it hold pictures and I can set em up as my background (in theory, i have yet to figure that out)

But there are a few problems. The main one being that it's unable to send or recieve picture messages. It's totally ridiculous, why would a camera phone be unable to send images except by email? And when I recieve pictures they go through this telusmobility/snap page which is completely broken and compresses the photos recieved into these tiny sub 100x100 pixel images that you can barely see. It's really annoying, especially considering the excellent screen on the phone combined with it's 3.2 megapixel camera.

Another smaller issue is that the email sync is fairly hostile to gmail. When I synced it up, it downloaded every single message I had recieved or sent and marked em new + unread. Considering gmail doesn't delete messages I ended up with a hell of a backlog that took forever to delete. I think it's downloaded them all now so whatever comes in the future will sync normally. (and of course hotmail and outlook emails sync quite well to the windows mobile system )

Anyway getting past that I got some cash and that i'm flush with it with some to spare I picked up some scotch. I decided to pick up a bowmore, on a recommendation from a friend. I picked the 15 year to taste but i've found it is MUCH too smokey for my tastes. It feels like i've inhaled a campfire with every sip. Next time around i'll go back to a glenmorangie or glenfiddich, or a nice scotch-whiskey blend.

oh and here's the photo i was going to upload when I restarted my computer but fell asleep instead.

edit- image was huge, resizing.

I found full time work for a few days until school starts and a part time position that's perfect when school begins and i've got all the cash I need and more for going to the convention in a week.

I met up with an ex-girlfriend turned friend tonight, things went really well. Her life's certainly been more interesting than mine the past two years as she's found a lot of work modeling. It's really quite impressive, looks like lots of people like her look.

She's done a few magazine covers too, i'm really happy for her. Anyway we had a good conversation and the night ended well.

On top of that, I got my HTC touch diamond today which i'm ecstatic about! I've been using a 6 year old phone and the jump to a smartphone with a touchscreen is awesome. I'll see if I can't upload a picture. Actually need to reset my computer first so i'll do that :P

Last night (early morning) i fixed the downstairs toilet. It wasn't difficult, i don't know why i put it off. Just took a little while, an hour of work. I replaced the tank and some of the internal mechanisms with a spare toilet I picked up from a garage sale for 20$. It's a cheap fix compared to replacing the entire toilet and/or hiring an electrician. Looks pretty good too.

The basement bathroom is not up to today's code. It's a 1950's house and the allowances would have an inspector rip the whole thing up and replace it all, but it's a hell of a renovation for no profit for a resale so i'll just fix the issues myself.

This is sort of a rambling post today but i'll continue. I've been playing a fair bit of Team Fortress 2, a neat FPS videogame. I have about 450 hours logged since it was released in october? abouts. I was playing in a tournament today but my team lost badly. It's largely a result of bad organization and no leadership but it made me feel like my playing sucked :P. I'm going to have to top some leaderboards to regain my confidence in my skillz lol.

Some renters (three girls) looked at the basement apartment today and were pleased about it which is fantastic. I was worried about them having problems after I spent so much time fixing up the place but they are happy with it. I didn't get to apply for a part time position for school today, but tomorrow will be a big day for that. I think that's all for today, i'm glad I got it down. Until tomorrow then. Going off to play some TF2

Today I've done nothing. I should be mowing the lawn and replacing a toilet tank at the moment for the renters coming to check the place tomorrow. This is pretty important actually I'm going to go do that right now. Short entry but at least it's down

Another day. My last day. This weekend I am officially unemployed and seeking a low wage, low stress job I can earn a little spending cash while I continue my studies.

I've got my resumes printed out and looking sharp, everything is ready to go. The only thing is that tomorrow I have to go down to my parent's farm to fix the lawn sprinkler system and a sprayer. I've already figured out the electrical issue with the sprayer so that'll be 1/2 hour to bump off and then the rest of the day will be spent troubleshooting the sprinklers. My parents haven't touched them since they got the farm close to 10 years ago. And now it's my duty to repair them.

I don't even know how a sprinkler system works; i'm going to have to do a lot of reading to sort it all out before I touch any of it. I wonder where you could buy parts for a 10 year old sprinkler system. I'm probably going to have to do some plumbing work to put more modern heads on the pipes. Aggravating.

Anyway to adapt to an early morning start time I skipped sleep last night. It's close to nine already, I hope it's not too late to sleep and catch up- I don't want to sleep some 15 hours and wake up back where I started. A quick cold shower and shave then i'm off to bed.

I'm restarting my diary/journal/blog in the hopes of getting a little more introspection and thought into my life once more. I'm beginning to get a little apathetic, letting life happen to me rather than making things happen for myself.

I was reading back in my journal and there's more than a few times I cringed or chuckled at what I was going through. Growing up is so muddled; it's hard to see the big picture when you're part of it.

Anyways I am in a bit of a rut at the moment. This summer I did nothing really but work, come home, and play videogames while waiting for school to start again. I've gone out a few times but nothing spectacular, I need to be more social again. It's a natural swing towards more interaction with others that I recognize, so I'll just go with it and talk to new people.

While my full time job is great and a good reference, they have no part time positions for me so I am quitting by the end of this week and applying for part time positions with a retail or gas station or some work that isn't stressful and where I might get some studying done if business is slow. My friend suggested coin-op wash attendant; but i'm not sure if they even stay open in winter. I'm open to suggestions, it'll likely just end up being a retail spot somewhere near to my house.

Also there's a gaming convention, PAX, that i'm going to in three weeks. I've been planning for this for months but some unexpected expenses have come up (car, medical) that ate most of my cash. I'm not entirely sure how i'm going to pay for all of it. It's going to be tight, and switching to part time is not going to help. In addition it's from the 27th-31th which will be an issue because my school starts on the 25th! i'll miss my thursday and friday classes and possibly the monday class as well. I'll talk to my prof about it and see if I can't get some material ahead of time.

I guess that's everything, i don't want to burn out on this so i'll add stuff tomorrow.
