So last night i went to dinner with some german chick who i just met, but had seen a week or so ago on the bus to Flores. We didnt speak then, but we "met" yesterday, talked, and went out for dinner. She's pretty cool, smart, and has a really good outlook on life and some great ideas about it all.

We talked about lots of stuff, cultural anthropology, relationships, various stories of true adventure, regular crap. the conversation flowed smoothly, it was really comfortable. I was saying how I just didn´t know where to go, and didn´t really want to follow the crowds. She told me how she and this dude decided to take a random chicken bus and get off at wherever it stopped, and spent a night in some mountains in a small shack and it was fun, there was nothing there, just people living their life.

DUH! what a great idea, so that i think is what i shall do. If not from here, then from the next place i go. I am just going to let fate and random...

its about 2 in the afternoon, i’m tired. i was drunk last night, slept about 2 hours, then at 530 this morning woke up to go on a trip to the pecaya, the active volcano here in antigua. walked up it, it was underwhelmed. i wish i could be one of those people who are so easily impressed with themselves and think they did something really really cool. yeah, it was nice, yeah we got close to some lava, yeah it was a nice walk and beautiful scenery, but it wasnt a big awesome thing i would go around telling people about.

Its not that i didnt enjoy it all, i liked it quite much. I just didnt seem to get the thrill and satisfaction that others did. They were so amazed, why wasnt i amazed? i was standing next to actual lava, fresh from the center of the earth, on a mountain that was constantly spewing it. Yet i take it all for granted, like i was expecting a lot more, and it was a let down.

Why didnt i enjoy it as much as others?

Sometimes...

I spent about three days in Coban, Guatemala, and was bored and underwhelmed and wanted to move on. The last night, i was standing in the door of the hotel, smoking with the hotel owner, watching the world go by, when two brits and a guatemalan walked past and talked to the owner, they met him/knew him. i talked to the brit briefly, he had just got into town, and as he walked away, he turned and said "we are going to a bar, wanna come along?" always up for adventure, i agreed and went along.

we went to a club, but it had a cover, so we went to a different bar. it was cool and hip, owned by a spainiard from barcelona, and had the look and feel of a bar you see in movies about expats who have dropped out of the world. after a few beers, we went back to the club with the cover, and it was a disco, raging. we got a beer and stood on the sidelines, but a few minutes into it, we went onto the floor, and started moving about. i guess you could call it dancing,...

Oh hey, some people read my blog.

For those who may read my blog, please understand: I'm not looking for advice or sympathy (although I gladly and eagerly accept any given). I say this because most of the crap I write in here will be kind of negative, but it's just how I deal with things, I write them out, lots of whining and complaining. If you want to give me advice or sympathy, I'll gladly take it, but I'm not fishing for it.

So why don't I make the entries private? Partly I'm a bit of a literary exhibitionist, but mostly I figure my crappy ass life has to be entertaining to someone, if nothing else they can look at me and think "damn, my life is shit, but I'm glad I'm not that guy." And so I don't want to rob anyone of the potential entertainment they might get from reading...

Got on a collectivo for Coban, it was crowded with workers and a guy packing a gun, which i didnt understand. we went a bit, then the workers got on the roof of the van and a family of indians, guy, wife, her mother, and three little girls, about 5 - 9 years old got on, eating greasy foods and guzzling soda.

The van was barrelling through the countryside, up and down mountains, and eventually one of the girls started to puke. the guy opened the window so the girl could spew, i quickly moved aside to avoid blowback, and she puked out the window, all over the side of the van. Not too much later, the other girl puked in the van, hitting the mom, the third girl, the floor, and the guy who sits at the side door taking money and opening the door.

The smell was a bit much I guess, as the guy pulled out a hankerchief and covered his nose, and hung his head out the window whenver he could. The first girl puked again, promting the second girl to puke. It was...
