and this is how i ended up in the town of roxruja. the “town” is a dirt road lined with shacks and trash. there is the farmacy shack, the stationary shack, the grocery markey shack, lots of little restaurant shacks (people´s houses with a huge patio and a few plascit tables), the internet shack. i couldnt find the bar shack.

yesterday i went to tikal and looked at ruins and pyramids. yay. i will never go out of my way to look at a ruin again, ever.

had a great dinner, we talked and laughed and that was it. the chick wasnt into me, she talked about the guy she met a few days prior, and the look in her eyes was almost cartoonish, wiht stars and shit. i didnt press hard, i didnt act idiotic, we talked about it, and she just isnt into me. she said she hopes i come to amsterdam sometime to visit her. i´ll go only if there are ruins.

now i´m in a small town that is a few buildings around a crossroads. i wont be speaking any english for a few days, i´m gonna hang out here alone in my room with nothing and then go on to Cobal, where i can go caving.

guatemala is nice, i like it, the tourist parts are more expensive than mexico, but otherwise, its pretty cool. beautiful...

I left mexico today at 0500 o clock in the fucking mornig on a collectivo, communal minivan. all i knew was i had to get to frontera corozal. got there, they took me right to the boat dock where i got my boat ticket, then i went to immagration. i couoldnt find my fucking tourist card from when i entered mexico, so i had to pay another 25 bucks to leave, i didnt have small bills, the guy let me go with paying only 20. got on the boat, halfway up the river i found my tourist card, DAMMIT!!! got off the boat, i was in guatemala. a guy was there, asked if i was going to flores, which of course i was. i asked about changing money, he said “that guy right there” and there was a dude standing there with a calculator and wad of cash. i changed money, bought my bus ticket, waited for a bunch of other touristas, the bus took us to guatemalan immagration, i got charged the illegal $5 entry fee, i didnt feel like fighting it, fuck it, its only cash, (he says cavalierly, as he quickly runs...

Its 1816 hours local time, it´s jungle hot, I´m moist like a Duncan Hines cake. Wasted the day at some local ruins, a bunch of old rocks piled neatly in the dirt, with a bunch of Euopeans walking all over them.

I was gonna go to Guatemala tomorrow, but instead, I foolishly signed up for a tour of other, more distant old rocks piled artistically in the jungle. Bonampak and, um, some place beginning with an X on the river, bordering Guatemala. They are supposed to be pretty cool, lots of art of human sacrifices, and who doesn´t love a good human sacrifice?

I´ve been to Ankor Watt though, and I doubt anything will come close, not even the once mighty Mayan empire. I believe this will be the last real touristy thing i do. I dont really care about it, and it costs money that i could use for food, which i enjoy much more than walking around "historical sites."

After a hellishly slow busride thorugh mountains and amazingly verdant green scenery, I finally made it to the thriving metropolis of Palenque. I had to walk "all the way" from the bus station to the hotel, taking at least 7 minutes. I got a bed on the roof for about US$ 4.75 a night, its got a breeze, its nice, i am digging it. Palenque is a dirty small nasty border town, I love it. I´ll go to the variious Mayan ruins tomorrow, then I will arrange border crossing into Guatemala. I will probably stay a night out in Mayabell, in a hammock at the ruins. I havent spoken english in three days now.

Shit and damn, there was some more crap I wanted to write, but I just plain forgot. I´m hungry and need to eat.

Internet is slow and shitty, and I heard from other travvelers it just gets worse in Guatemala and beyond. I´ll update when I can, dont know about uploading pictures though.
