Maybe as real as this, I suppose

I'm thinking those photos are a hoax. It's the same damn kitchen in both sets of photos!

It's a mouse! For whatever reason, I couldn't make sense of it until I saw the frog.

Maybe they have a really bad problem with local wildlife?

It doesn't look very mouselike. The frog looks quite happy in there - wouldn't he have suffocated?

It doesn't look very mouse like because it's been cut in half length-wise. Nasty. I don't think I would eat buns ever again if I found that.

seen this on the local news.

Video of news story

from http://urbanlegends.about.com
Quote:
According to a follow-up report, representatives from Arnold Bakers, the Florida company that manufactured the buns, inspected the product and determined that Van Dyne's "mouse" was nothing but "hardened dough, also called 'pan accumulation.'" Results of independent lab tests are due next week.

Meanwhile, Van Dyne openly scoffs at the bakery's assertion, calling it "incredible." The director of North Carolina's consumer food and drug protection agency, Joe Reardon, said the state will conduct its own investigation.
and after the lab results:

Quote:
The lab results are in.

A PR firm for Arnold Bakers emailed me a copy of a certificate from Maryland food testing laboratory Strasburger & Siegel stating that microscopic analysis has determined that the "rodent" found baked into a hot dog bun by a Charlotte, NC man was, in fact, "starchy residue."

Specifically:

1. The extraneous matter was conclusively identified as product build-up.

2. The gray streak on the roll appeared to be the result of this product build-up having contacted the side.

3. There was no evidence (hairs, excreta, stains, etc.) of rodent contamination on or in the rolls or the submitted extraneous matter.

Pretty straightforward. No comment from state health officials as yet, though presumably they're still conducting their own investigation, having been totally left out of the loop on this one.
but dont rest easy, you can always find something like this in your food

yup, thats a mouse.

I'm glad I've never run into a mouse in my food. Real or not.
