New girl.

Hello!

I've just joined TFP, and wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I've had a look around and read a number of the threads with great interest, so I thought I would post as I think I would enjoy being a member here.

A short bit about myself: I love playing and listening to music, reading, driving (preferably in the countryside) with no particular destination in mind, coffee, existentialism, baking, good conversation. I have recently left my job, where I worked at a school where I was providing pastoral/welfare/emotional support to students, and covering lessons here and there when teachers were absent. In September I am going back to university to study for a Masters in Cognitive Studies, run between the Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics departments. I'm ridiculously excited about it.

Anyway, enough from me for now! I look forward to reading more interesting discussion and participating.

I love linguistics. I took a course in it from cracked old professor who lectured balancing on one foot while repeatedly fiddling with his belt buckle.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I've had a poke around a few threads and am really enjoying it already. The people here seem to have a lot of interesting things to share.

Poppinjay - I love eccentric academics like that! A small part of me thinks I'd like to be one of those sorts one day. I can't wait to start learning the linguistics stuff.

Hello tinycities! Are you made of ashes?

You sound like the sort of person who's going to fit in quite well here. Welcome.

It's from a song by Modest Mouse called Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes. My favourite version of the song is by a chap called Mark Kozelek who has a band called Sun Kil Moon, who did a cover album of Modest Mouse songs by the same name.

I am originally from a small city, yes! I live somewhere a little bit bigger now, but it still seems pretty small now that I know most of it pretty well. Thank you for the welcome!

Fantastic! Where are you going to be visiting? I'm originally from Cambridge, but now live up north. I hope you have a great time here. The weather of late has been uncharacteristically good and sunny. I've actually managed to develop something resembling a sun tan from spending a few days on the south coast with a friend - this is almost unheard of!

What an interesting range of instruments. I don't meet many people that play brass instruments, that's really cool. My main instrument is the piano which I've been playing since childhood. In the last few years I've developed an interest in the guitar, having enjoyed picking one up and having a play every now and then. I recently purchased a lovely (and very cheap) vintage hollow bodied electric guitar from eBay, so I look forward to expanding my (extremely limited) abilities soon!

I feel very welcomed, everyone seems so friendly. Thank you so much for the kind replies.

We will be visiting London, Bath, Salisbury, Cardiff, and Stratford-upon-Avon. While in Stratford, we're going to see Hamlet with David Tennant and Patrick Stewart

I have a Crestwood semi-hollow (among others in my collection) and clearly therefore also have a similar appreciation for such instruments. All the same, I didn't want to make a big deal about the guitar, because some people think I talk about guitars too much as it is.

And then I saw that you'd posted it in the ebay thread, and that you were taking proper care of it (or getting someone else to, anyway).

I think I'm in love.

You and me are going to get along just fine, I reckon.

Working on it, my man. I gots lots of iders, just haven't gotten around to replacing that crappy 4 track yet... The guy at the store says they're on backorder, and that he'll have one for me "in a couple of weeks," whatever the hell that means.
