New Racing Game: GRID

I just saw this on Steam and I looked up the reviews.. decided to get it.

Here are my first impressions after 2 races:

1. THIS GAME IS HARD!!!!!!
2. THIS GAME IS COOOOL!!!!
3. THIS IS SO FUCKING HARD!!!!
4. ARRRRGHHHH!!
5. I need a break.

Ok, I know that doesn't sound so good, but really, this is the coolest racing game I've ever played. It is SO hard but I am adapting to it slowly. It is a game of restraint. The graphics and details are fucking amazing. It took me SO many retries to finally complete each race, but I can see myself coming back for more. I enjoyed it. You're never really in complete control.

If you want a game that is both frustrating and exhilaration, try it out.

It looks a bit like an "ice skater" type racing game which I loathe - where you just slide all over the track like you are on ice instead of the game instilling a sense of traction - but the graphics and damage system look cool enough to where I think I will try it out (I'm a huge fan of racing games)

Hey Halx - why is it so hard? Because damage actually counts, or because of the controls, or because of the AI, or a combination of everything?

God, its hard. I just played for a couple hours and only got past one more track.

Its hard because:

1) Damage counts
2) Controls are so touchy
3) Other cars can take you out with just a tap
4) The tracks don't let you put the pedal to the metal.

It is too easy to spin out or to get bumped off the road. You have to drive a perfect race to even finish. You also have to be lucky enough to either avoid being smacked/locked by another car or instantly recover from spinning out. If you do spin out, good luck getting back to speed without spinning out again.

I don't know how much more I can take of this.. all I know is that is a beautiful game.

Just bought this last night myself.
The toughest part about it is all the bumping from the other cars. Tough to get through some tight turns without getting smashed into a wall.
The drift section is like driving on ice, spinning out all the time.
I hear the open wheel section is a whole different type of difficult.
Have you used the rewind feature?

I tried the demo on Xbox Live Marketplace Demos Room Place Bolevard.

It's okay. Kind of a pain in the ass, but that's what real racing is like.
