Game Trading Website

So, I've found this neat game trading website. There's no money or credit cards involved, so I thought I'd take a look. The site uses a point system (100 points for this or that game, etc.). You find the game you want, get on the waiting list for it, and then it will get sent to you by whoever has it. They pay shipping. If you sign up by a referral, you get 100 free points (one free older game).

The site has all kinds of games ranging from the old school PS1 all the way up to the PS3 and the 360. Of course, the newer/better/rarer games are worth more points. For instance, Mass Effect Limited Edition is worth 1000 points.

Right now, I've got GUN for the PC being shipped to me. And, I think after I give the guy some sort of feedback, I'll get another 200 points.

Check it out, and get some free games.

And, if you care, I found this on my university's forum. A couple of my friends have become avid members of this goozex place.

What advantage is there for the sharer? I've got 30 XB360 games and very few I'd want to play?

Also, I don't see how it could not use a credit card, since it says up front:

"On Goozex you preserve the value of your games by trading for Goozex Points. You only pay $1 per game when you receive it. And we guarantee each trade!"

You get points (again depending on the game) to trade for other games. I think I'm going to ship out a few myself so I can get some of the more "expensive" games.

I don't like anything that I can't understand the business model of. Can you lay it out more clearly? Who gets the dollar? Goozex points? How does this all work? Smells fishy to me.

You can buy goozex points if you want. Also, I think after the first 3 or so games you get, you might have to pay $1 to goozex afterwards for every game you want to get. That, I'm not sure on though.

After I get this game that's being shipped to me, I'll let you guys know. I wouldn't want you guys to get ripped off.

The game is being shipped on June 14, so I guess I'll get it next week.

Ok, so as I understand it, what prevents you and me from each 'trading' eachother a couple 2000 point games that don't exist and mopping up?

Had the same thought, actually. It appears THEY arrange the trades.

Here is more info from them about how their site works if you have more questions. I'm still trying to learn this stuff too. I'm still really confused about the $1 thing I mentioned earlier.

So, no one likes the idea of this site? I can have photo documentation up of me shipping and receiving a game (whenever my first game comes in) if it helps for you to look at this stuff.

Really, I'm just trying to get Ninja Gaiden 2 and WiiFit, and I would love for you guys to help me out.

Two questions:

How do they make money?

Who pays the shipping?

I can't find an answer to either explicitly stated.

A couple of things.

First from the TFP Rules:

Quote:
J. If it's referral-based and gets you free stuff, it's not allowed. It doesn't matter if it's a free iPod, a porn site, or a game, it's not allowed and is typically treated like spam.
And with Tilted Marketplace now up and running, I don't see a reason for this one to stay open.

I don't think it's referral-based, in the manner of violating the rules. It mentions value-preservation. I think what happens is that you trade out a game. When the other person gets it, you are awarded points. You use those points to "buy" other games from other people. The only monetary value is the $1 per trade on the one side. The "value" of the points is that if you trade out a game worth 2000 points, then you get a game worth 800 points, you still have 1200 points for another game.

I don't think it sounds fishy, but it takes too much control away from the participants if I understand it correctly.
