Another Blizzard Countdown: Diablo 3

http://www.blizzard.com/us/splash.html

Each day some more of the ice breaks off. Supposedly on Saturday, there will be an announcement. My guess is that it's just the release date to the new WoW expansion. Other's have speculated Diablo 3 announcement...

Given the ice theme, and what I know about Wrath of the Lich King, my guess is that it's for the expansion.

don't worry, I'm sure it will be delayed numerous times like every other blizzard reason

I'm going with Starcraft II though.

That's what I was thinking too.

I doubt it's SC2 because they already had a countdown for it's anouncement.

Probably an expansion, hopefully Diablo. Or maybe they're moving up the release date for SC2!

If this is related to WOTLK I will /wrists. Some people are saying Diablo 3 with the theme "hell froze over."

Some say SC2 release date and they're just fucking with us.

Either way I can't wait and of course I am in nerd anticipation as I played WoW for 3 years, 40 hours per week and am a huge Blizzard fan regardless of me canceling my account a year ago.

BTW there's now stars behind it and the "ice" is starting to look more like the crystal resources from StarCraft.

It's Diablo 3.

that is all.

Usually when you type a wrong URL path in the Battle.net forums URL, it would automatically redirect you to the main list of Battle.net forums. That's a very common behavior. Right? However, if you type d3-general in the URL you are getting a very unique and intriguing behavior by the server. It instead redirects you to a page that says the Forums are down ... as if the server is acknowledging that a Diablo 3 Forum does exist.

I'm hoping it's Diablo3. There's Runes from frostmourne, Hel rune from D2 and the Protoss logo. All 3 games are represented in the image. I'm just praying that means all 3 games will have something new to show at WWI

Shauk, that's damned interesting. Good call. BUT, Blizz has done this before... prior to the release announcement of Burning Crusade, they registered some SC2 domains and such. They are giant bastards! :-p

Also note that the image is called ice3.jpg, if that's worth anything. BTW, what are the little arcane ward looking things in three spots around the ice? Any ideas?

Well, when WoW was announced way back when they did the same thing, with a space theme. This led people to believe it was SC2 but it was WoW. Blizzard likes tricking people.

from diabloii.net:

Quote:
In a question and answer session that concluded this year's GDC Paris, Pardo was asked directly if he could talk more about "the new game" that rumours have strongly suggested will be Diablo 3.

'So you want me to announce the game before our announcement?' he said. 'No offense, but I think there's like 300 people here, and I'll be ripped apart by 8000 people there [at the Invitational] if I pre-announce it - but it's going to be really exciting. I think everybody here will be really excited about the announcement.'
also,

Quote:
With this week's speculation over the Blizzard teasers, more and more reports in the media, and numerous tips coming direct us at IncGamers from reliable inside industry sources in the past 24 hours, we now have confirmation from inside sources to say that Diablo 3 WILL be announced on Saturday at WWI Paris 2008.

With that in mind, we would like to invite Diabloii.net readers to submit their questions for us to ask Blizzard.

This is extremely exciting for all of us here at Diabloii.net. For the past 10 years we have been supporting the Diablo community and to have something completely new to sink our teeth into is fantastic. We will be at the show on Saturday for the announcement and also the press conference which is directly after, so expect reports from the show floor live, interviews and much more.
diabloii.net is going to get ripped apart if they are wrong on this, since they "confirmed" it.

There's more at www.diablofans.com

Plus this from the europe WWI shop that leaked then got taken down right away:

Well then if that picture is accurate and the runes are from all 3 games i wouldn't be surprised if they whip out news on all 3.

I'm a little skeptical about how good a Diablo 3 game will be received. It will depend a lot on how much they stray from the other 2. If they go 3d it could do as badly as Hellgate: London did. After all that game was from the makers of Diablo iirc. I think its just the name that would carry it in sales tbh.

As it is Starcraft 2 seems to be more of the same. But I'm still going to check it out. And of course I'm also going to pick up the wow expansion.

You know, I'd play Diablo 3 for ages if it was more of the same, with refined graphics.

The mood, music & gameplay were all very much top notch to me.

I even liked the fact that you had to host different games, instead of 1 big world like the MMOs today.
Especially since the maps were randomly generated.

I agree, more of the same would be nice. i don't want them to stray too far from the formula. I wonder what they'll do for diablo 3 tho. The prime evils are gone and the world stone is shattered. Unless there's some evil overlord dude they haven't introduced yet. Maybe a prequel?

Several lesser evils can still make an appearance, the war between Heaven & Hell itself could be very interesting, and like you said, a prequel might also be possible.

I'd say: just don't turn it into a HG:L but that game did have alot of good ideas... It just seemed like it was lacking funds to make it a great game (bugs/limited tilessets/paying for this and that/underwhelming graphics/...)

So the new one today:

It appears to be a symbol from another of Blizzards games. A more obscure one.

Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain

A game from 1993 on macs and 1995 for PC. Maybe Lost Vikings tomorrow?

If It does turn out to be Diablo3, I hope it's more like the earlier patches and not the newest patch where everything is has resists and no matter what class you play you end up going against mobs that you have no way to kill. It lost all re-playability because it was just so frustrating, especially in hardcore mode when a death meant starting over..

Pax Imperia was a pretty good game, actually. I'd be interested to see a new one, but I don't think Blizz owns the rights anymore, unless they bought them back.
