Final Fantasy VII on PS3???
For about the last week to week and a half there has been a picture of what seems to be an in store Best Buy ad showing Final Fantasy VII with an August 16th release date. Pretty much every major gaming blog and website has ran pub on it, but no one REALLY knows what it is all about. Is it a re-release for the 3, is it a PSN release, is it a re-make for the PSP (even thought it says PS3) many questions on this one, even if it is real or just photoshopped, not to mention that it is also a Saturday, when was the last time a company dropped a game on a weekend like that?
Couple all of the above with the fact that there is no way that this could really be true and no one at Square Enix or Sony not spilling the beans, or any major legit press release and the date is less than a week away. http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kota...bestbuyps3.jpg Many lines of thought are pointing to this being a mis-print and it is supposed to be Disgaea 3 for the 18th, which is probably the real ad just mis-printed, but it sure is one heckuva mess up if that is the case, all the while no one from Best Buy or Square has stepped up to correct it that I have heard of. Thoughts, opinons?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's misprinted. I doubt we'll see any Final Fantasy games on PSN due to licensing rights. Square's an ass about that.
Also, if there were a FFVII remake slated for PS3, the news would have got out long ago and most gaming sites and forums would be covered in thick layers of fanboy jizz.

Wait, you guys didn't know about this?
As far as I know this has been in the works for awhile now. I've been waiting impatiently.

It could also be an ad for Advent Children Blu Ray release, but I don't think that can be possible. The disk is supposed to have Final Fantasy XIII demo on it and I'm pretty sure it's not ready yet.

If It's FF7 at all, It'll probably be a downloadable PS1 version. I highly doubt it's a graphically enhanced version. It would be horrible marketing. Something like the Tech Demo of FF7 Square made would need months previews and a few weeks of advertisements before they shipped it.

I think I'm the only person that hates remakes, especially of classics like FFVII. That game holds a special place in my memory and a remake would take away some of that feeling. I hope it's nothing.

FF7 had a style that's been unmatched even by the spinoffs. It kind of had an almost steampunk style to it where there's primitive looking machinery doing high tech jobs. The Midgar Slums are probably the best designed area in any game ever! You just walk in and it's dark and rusty and you just know you're gonna get mugged. I'd love to see that in 1080p!

If you mean FF6 (America's FF3), they already did it. It's on the DS, and it's pretty sweet. Still, I'd love to see 7 redone.

(edit: Actually, judging from your Cecil avatar, I doubt you would get FF4 confused with FF6, so you're probably thinking of FF3) Last edited by CyCo PL; 08-13-2008 at 06:41 PM. |

I wish they'd just release the FF7 remake. I don't own the game anymore but I don't want to pay all the money people seem to want for it, so I sit here hoping that in time it'll be remade.
FF6 is also awesome. I spent way too many hours playing that growing up. I'd love to see a PS3 remake of that too. It has a good story and I mean, it takes you by surprised about halfway through. Also, I'll never forget the day I figured out 6:10:50. It was an accomplishment for me and I think I'll remember it for the rest of my life. |
