I remember this espiode where Data, Tori, and O'Brien was taken over by ghost of a ship that crash landed on a planet and the spirit of the crew was unable to escape afterlife. I forget what the name of the espiode

They used a process called chromakey, in which the computer replaces a specific color with another video. They set the key color to the black of the panel.

Same technology used for the weather map on the evening news (except that's a blue or green chromakey).
