Finding a new city to move to?

Hello all,

Long story short I am pretty much tired of the way things are. I think maybe a change in scenery/environment might be good for me. I've lived in the same state all my life (I'm 25) split between two cities. The first 18 years in a small town and the last 7 in a suburb of a larger city where I went to college.

Has anyone done something similar and would like to share their experience and how they went about the whole process. What did you look for/think about/was important to you? Pitfalls to avoid etc.

I don't have anything specific in mind. In some ways I kinda feel like I've got the whole world open to me which is actually a little overwhelming. But I'm not tied down to where I currently live so I think that makes things easier.

I'd love to hear any input you all had. Thanks

I would do a little research on the new place to make sure there are ways for you to make new friends in the new city. I moved to a small town after college for work, only to realize there were no young people my age to hang out with. Needless to say, I got the hell out of there after 2 years.

i had had enough of where i was in life. overstressed, overworked, underpaid. i needed a change.

i decided to put it all on the line and go for a job overseas. Dubai to be exact. i got offered the role, and nearly 3 years later, here i am. still here, and enjoying being an expat.

go overseas.. you have a degree..its worth something, use it to your advantage while you travel if thats your thing. it looks like you're at the crossroads and in need of a sea change, so run with it

I had a friend who said, "I can have a crappy job in Ohio, or I can have a crappy job in South Carolina." He's now in SC.

He looked for a place that fit his lifestyle, found a job and moved.

Always make sure you're running TOWARD something and not AWAY from something. It will catch up with you eventually.

Think of a place that you've visited that you liked...look into the job market, the demographics, local areas of interest that will attract your personality. Or you can throw a dart at a map. (I still suggest researching whatever you land on.)

I'm ready to move too. I have no obligations keeping me in the Buckeye state besides my friends. (Some of them I have known since I was 5.) I just figure, if I don't take the time now to take hold of new experiences, I may never be able to do so. I also know if it doesn't work out, I can always come back here. If I see a job that would fit me somewhere other than here, I apply. If I don't get it, no big deal...

I hope you find your path!

I would suggest that whatever you research and think you might like, you go visit the area first. A lot of cities are different in person than on paper.

Why don't you try overseas - like Scotland or even Australia?
