Coldplay's "Viva la Vida"

Is anyone else looking forward to Coldplay's new album coming out next month? Their first single "Viva la Vida" (Long Live Life) is pretty damn amazing!

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/76as-3-iEuk&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/76as-3-iEuk&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

The lyrics are so different from anything they've written in the past.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

This will take some getting used to. It sounds a lot different than anything on X&Y.

I've grown tired of Chris Martin's voice ever since A Rush of Blood to the Head.

That's a shame. Their music is getting better with each album!

As a band I think they really are progressing in a positive manner. Some bands really lose sight of themselves as they keep pushing themselves in new directions.

The song is straightforward and forgettable. I hope for their sake that this isn't their new sound.

It's a pretty enough song, but life is too short to try to take in everything pretty. I require more.

I adore it. The song "Violet Hill" is out there as well. Hauntingly beautiful.

I love both songs and can't wait for the album!

I'm really looking fowards to this album (I've pre-ordered it on iTunes) but I'm hoping it is better than Viva La Vida. It's an OK song, but I expect better.

Violet Hill is ok...but I must say I'm disappointed overall. No punch...their first album is by far the best one, hands down.

I've definitely gotten used to it. Now I really enjoy it!

I'd have to say the acoustic version of Japan is probably my favorite (from the iTunes prerelease).

I will always love Parachutes the most.. "Don't Panic" takes me to a million places at once when I hear its opening notes. A Rush of Blood to the Head is also one of my favorite albums to just sit and listen to.

Honestly, Coldplay probably lost me with X&Y. I saw them twice on tour that summer.. and both times, I just found myself craving older songs. I haven't heard any of this new album.. I'm going to go see what I can find to listen and see if I like it.. but I'm not going to be surprised if I can't get into it.

I was disappointed at first, but after a few replays, it's starting grow on me. I liked Viva La Vida from the start, but Violet Hill and Cemeteries of London are catching on. I'm still warming up to Lovers in Japan, I'll have to check out the acoustic version.

I don't get the ColdPlay phenomenon. I've tried to get into them. I figured they're so popular and mainstream I should like them too. Idunno, I find their music to be really, really boring. So repetitive. And Chris Martin is a really boring singer. Sorry, just my opinion. Would love to hear people expand on why they like them so much though. Maybe it will help me to learn to like them.

So far for me its been more enjoyment of the lyrics then the music itself, although I do like Martin's voice. For whatever reason, their songs "speak to me", as corny as it sounds. And I might be wrong, but they don't seem so main stream in the states, and they definitely are not main stream in my neck of the woods, as I seem to be the only ones who know who they are.
