The most important man in my life past away 7 years ago. My dad was my heart and one of the reasons i kept going. Two days before he past away I saw my uncle who passed away 2 years before in the kitchen and he whispered to call my dad. I desperately called my dad for 2 days and everytime I would call he was either working or sleeping. The day he passed away I got a phone call from my sister saying our dad had a massive heart attack while driving but yet the cops told us he was able to pull over and give them his address and phone number before he fell in front of them and did instantly. The day we were going to bury him we were in the church and all of a sudden myself and my brother and sisters smelled porkchops frying in the church. We just looked at each other cuz that was his favorite food. That night as I was falling asleep I saw my dad and he called me over. I went to him and he told me not to cry anymore and that he loved me. He then hugged me. The problem I'm having is that I know I wasn't fully asleep and I felt his arms go around me. My daughter woke up telling me that her grandfather was playing with her hair like he always did. Can someone let me know if I've lost my mind or my dad was telling me I'll see you later? I also saw him last year when I had open heart surgery.

Stress does a lot of strange things to your body and mind. In normal life, it's easy to notice only the coincidences that seem strange, the phenomenon is called synchronicity.

When you're desperate for a sign, your brain can come up with one to help you cope. The bedside encounter sounds like a stress-induced hypnogogic hallucination (also see: sleep paralysis,) which a lot of people experience regularly and can certainly be brought on by stress. It's odd that your daughter would have a similar experience, but she must be stressed even if only because she sees your reaction to losing your father. During surgery and under general anesthesia, people see all sorts of things, and a comforting sight to help keep you calm is not much of a stretch of the imagination.

Calm yourself, enjoy your thoughts and memories. Take them how you want to. I still will "talk" to my grandfather, who was a tremendous man when I was growing up, when I need advice or guidance.
