The guys responsible for string theory decided that maybe causality and the speed of light don't work the way we think they do and propose that the LHC is going back in time and sabotaging itself because of some quasi-religious garbage. Either that or a sloppy connection between a couple of wires in the most complicated and precision-demanding machine every built vaporized when a lot of current ran through it, leading to the snowball effect that it supermagnet quenching. Equally plausible.

In other news, after repairs, the LHC has carried lead ions at 1.2TeV, and has circulated particles halfway around the collider and have been detected by CMS and ALICE. Looks like we're on track for full beam by the end of the month.
