Mayweather Sr. Adivising Against Jr.'s Possible MMA Match

Quote:
"He needs to leave that shit alone. He’s going to get the same fucking thing Vince Phillips got; leg broke, arm broke or whatever. Vince Phillips got his arm broke. You can’t mess with that…that’s what they do. You can’t beat nobody at their own game."

"All of this he talking about right now, this martial arts shit, I’m telling you, he about to get broke the fuck up right now. I’m telling you, he could forget all of that stuff being cute and how you supposed to hit somebody with a check hook. Man, them motherfucker’s going to take that check hook motherfucker and squeeze your guts out. I’m just being real with you man."

"If he ever want to take a motherfuckin’ loss, you bout to take one right now motherfucker. Go ahead and try that. One of them motherfuckers grab you and bing, bing…hit the floor twice motherfucker and it’s over with."

"Lil Floyd about to get his ass tore up man. He ain’t about to whoop them motherfuckers. He can forget that shit!"

"Man, let me tell you something, they don’t even need a referee for this shit right here. They ain’t going to need a referee because he’s going to tap his own self out if he’s able."

"They going to break his fucking limbs. One of them motherfuckers hit him upside his fucking head and he may never be the same. I’m just telling the truth."

"He ain’t got to worry about retiring. When they get through with his ass, he will be retired. He will be retired fucking with them motherfuckers. They would love to fight him. This ain’t no fucking boxing; ain’t none of these motherfuckers scared of his ass. I’ll fight one of them motherfuckers if they just want to throw their guards up. I’m old and I’ll beat they ass, but when they start talking about that going to the ground, elbows and knees and all of that, man fuck that shit. I ain’t about to go in there. Them motherfuckers dangerous man. One thing about it, them guys can take a fucking punch man. Those guys will laugh at Lil Floyd when he hit them."
He's not giving him much of a chance. His "MMA" match would probably be something like Tommy Morrison's: no takedowns, ground fighting, kicks, knees or elbow strikes. Effectively a 3 round boxing match with four-ounce gloves.

Mkay. MMA isn't boxing, and a boxer in an MMA fight without proper training probably would do as well as an MMA fighter in a boxing ring. That's normal. Think about Michael Jordan with a baseball bat. Having been both MMAer and boxer, I can attest to the fact that there are completely different schools of training and if "Jr." has not done the time training he's going to get raped soundly until he taps out crying.

Exactly.

I find it ridiculous that he thinks he can just jump into it.

That pro-wrestler Kurt Angle is basically trying to do the same thing.

Can we call "Kurt Angle" an entertainer until he's an olympian (or any form of real sportsman) again? Yeesh. I remember when Ken Shamrock joined WWF back in 2000(?) and we gave him fucking hell every time he came back. Frank didn't think it was funny, but he doesn't have a sense of humor.

Getting back to Mayweather the younger, IF HE TRAINED, he may get in there and have some fun. It's not like he's some fat guy or Urkle. I'm sure he has potential.

Kurt Angle is not seriously getting into MMA.

He is also an Olympic wrestler, something that is more helpful in modern MMA than being an Olympic boxer.

Carry on.

Supposedly Angle is suffering from "Buyers Regret" and he realized that he's going to ruin his wrestling contract by having to deal with a potential MMA injury.

If Floyd would spend a year learning wrestling with some olympians, or maybe join Xtreme Couture for a year or so, he would have a better chance. He would still probably get raped by all top 10 145lb competition.

boxers should be sticking to boxing..

mma wrestlers should stick to wrestling

there aint many sportsmen out there that can make it at the top of their sports in more than 1 discipline.

in saying that anthony mundine has crafted quite a career for himself out of boxing after a life of rugby league. so its doable.. just not cross code fighting though

mayweathers gonna get an ass whoopin.. he's got a family to take care of.

wih him the best but i say he's askin for a whooping

yeah i know...

BUT

as for deion and bo, they were only involved in baseball and NFL and they cant be considered international sports.. so ok u have a few international teams, but its really only an american sport, unlike football (soccer).

i may be going out on a limb here considering my limited knowledge of baseballa nd american football, but unlike the NBA where u have a myriad of international players (especially of late), baseball and NFL are confined to american athletes mainly. so u cant consider these guys the best in the world.

boxing on the other hand is open to all nations and is truely an international sport as is mma. and although bo was a talented in track and field, he never did represent the USA at an international level.

so i still stand by my comments that its hard for a person to be at the top of WORLD sports in more than 1 discipline.

i know that deion and bo are considered prime examples. has there been any others?

/sorry for the threadjack

mayweather is gonna get an ass whoopin..oh i already said that

Even though the "World Series" is a bit of a laughable term, I'd argue that the majority of the world's best baseball players do come to play in MLB, just as the best footy players end up in the EPL or La Liga or Serie A. American football is very much confined to North America.

But Rugby League? I'd bet more people play baseball than rugby of any description. Think of the populations of the US, Japan, and Central America alone and it is far, far ahead of Rugby League.

true highthief.. and i knew that one was coming..

but one is a national sport as much as baseball or NFL is, and one is a sport on the world stage.

yeah i know that rugby league is played in a couple of countries..but mundine has as much talent as any of these guys, and he managedto make a mark on world boxing. i think thats impressive.

as for 'rugby of any kind'.. id disagree. rugby union i would say is a world sport moreso than baseball or american football.

I think they are probably played in a similar number of nations (on a serious pro or at least semi-pro level) but just thinking of the nations that do seriously play baseball like the US, Mexico and Japan their populations greatly outnumber those of the UK, South Africa and Oz, so that's where I was heading with that one.

But overall distribution is probably similar, yes.

PBF offers something that none of the MMA fighters can though... he can bring more hype to an event than any match that can me made within MMA.

And they may be different disciplines... but someone so skilled as a boxer is going to have a natural application for any form of combat and going to pick things up quickly.

The question is... what can the move do for PBF?

He doesnt need the money, and he could get as much for a Hatton rematch in Manchester (even if there is no sporting reason for a rematch) than MMA could give him... and the impact on his legacy would be questionable whether he wins or loses.

I said in a previous post this would be a brilliant move for MMA. I would do it with a selected MMA champion - fighting PBF in the ring and then the cage. PBF would be bound to win the boxing match, so at best the "contest" would be 1-1 and his pride would be guaranteed... the MMA fighter should win the MMA match, which be huge with their fans (to beat such a great boxer) and pull in a huge amount of interest from non-typical fans. And PBF is just skillful enough, just clever enough, that people would think he had a shot at the MMA fight, enough at least to create real interest in it.

But, in all honesty... as great as it would be for MMA, I dont really want to see it happen - because I dont want this type of combat to take any more fans away from boxing as it is, and I dont really think PBF will go for it.

He is many things, but he isnt a dummy - and he isnt going to set himself up to be made a fool of.

Not necessarily, there are some big hype match ups between MMA fighters, Couture/Fedor comes to mind. I'm not really interested in watching Mayweather fight in MMA.

Sure... but PBF can reach outside of the MMA fanbase.

It isnt a fight that is necessarily even exciting to MMA fans, but it will get more mainstream interest than any match they can make.

Strange Famous, I think you are definitely right in that a fight with PBF has the potential to attract more new viewers than any one fight with MMA-only fighters.

That's sort of the same philosophy that drove the Washington Opera to advertise on the Country music radio stations in WDC. Smart thinking if you ask me.
