Would you urinate on your teams colours, for $1000

Whatever your main team is, whoever you identify yourself more than anything else, as a fan of - would you piss on a jersey of this team; if you were offered $1000 to do so (and your friends and family and work colleagues would find out about it)

For me, before anything else I suppose I am a fan of Norwich City Football Club - and as much as I could use the money, I'd have to say I wouldnt. I'd piss on a Union Jack or St George's cross for 1000, but not a City shirt.

To be honest, Im not really sure I'd piss on a St George's cross - because it represents the England Rugby colours, and also England cricket and football.

Im pretty certain the Union Jack means nothing to me though, Im English not British

Its strange...

In America people refer to sports teams in that way:

Doesnt Norwich....

But I would say

Don't Norwich...

==

I dont know what the difference in grammer signifies, but I still wouldnt piss on a City shirt.

Nope, not pissing on a Leafs jersey, now give me a Senators jersey and then you'll see some unspeakable acts performed and it wouldn't cost a penny.

Now if I were a Lions or a Chiefs fan, then I'd consider pissing on those jersey's, the way their seasons went, piss is the least of their worries on some uni's.

Bring it on. It's why I said any piece of fabric. Symbols are just an idea. Fabric is just fabric.

Piss on it, wipe my ass with it, it doesn't matter. And you can extend the question to nearly any other symbol people worship for little or no reason.

Include the Bible or Qur’an in that if it is simply a matter of would you do it for money. But were it for the purpose of offending or simply angering someone I'd obviously rethink it.

the grammatical difference is kinda interesting---uk english stages a team as a collective (a team is the people who comprise it), so it's plural. american english refers to the singular (a team). same goes for the city: a singular referring to a singular referring to a plural. american english has this quirk of opting for singular over plural whenever the chance presents itself--it's a simplified version of uk english. if you want to mess about with american english, make it do things, it seems the best way to go about it is to use that simplifying tendency and feed it back onto itself. but i digress.

sports thread.

would i piss on a team uniform for a grand?
why not?
i'd probably have to wait a few minutes for the machinery to kick into gear with a celtics uniform.
i'd have to think about the money, or maybe pretend that it was a national flag.

It depends on the situation, like how much my teammates would know about it. Would they know I'm getting paid to do so? Then yes. Or could they see it as a drunken accident? If not, then I highly doubt I would. I'd get the crapped kicked out of me if I did and lose a lot of camaraderie. But do I personally care? Not really. I've never put my emotions into an object and I see it as nothing more than that. I do see the symbolism involved in flags and such, but it's not possible to pee on something intangible.

It's a good question. But you need a third option on the poll (I voted no though, since it was the closest).

See that's interesting - to some people, the country they live in/were born in/originate from means more to them. For others, they identify a lot more strongly with their sports team than with their nation.

It's often been said that supporters of big football (soccer) teams in England would rather see their club team win a major title than see England win the World Cup.

Sure. I love my teams, but, hey... poor college student and all that. I think we tend to put too much emphasis on sports teams, anyway.

I'll cheer my teams on to victory in any game they're playing, and I'll trash talk right along with anyone else, but that's about where it ends for me.

I also have to take into account that the pro team members are making waaaaay more than I ever will. Even the college players are getting all sorts of benefits that I don't. I'd like to think they wouldn't begrudge me $1000 for something that doesn't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Considering I ve spent well over $1000 in my lifetime following my favorite soccer team, I wouldnt do that at all. One because, for whatever reason, I am devoted enough to that team. It is a significant part of my identity, as I was one of the things that really brought me and my father together. And two, I am from one of those countries where soccer rivalries really mean something. And although I dont live there anymore, I visit and go to soccer stadiums often enough that if word of this ever got out, I would have to either never show up at a stadium anymore, or spend significantly more than that in security.
