cdrwin and general burner problems *sigh*

As you may have guessed, i've been having some difficulties when it comes to burning and such using programs like cdrwin and nero.

Say im trying to rip something using cdrwin, but it keeps telling me that i have selected an unsupported device and that a generic driver will be used which may cause problems. In all fairness i am selecting my burning drive ( 1:0:0 ATAPI CD-RW 52X MAX 140D as it is listed in the choices along with my dvd rom) after pushing ok i get an error about SET READ PARAMETERS saying the command failed on the device 1:0:0 and that it was an illegal command request, ive also had problems burning using nero and other stuff.. its like the burner isnt reading it or something.

In nero i dont think its even reading my drive at all. The problems ive had in nero when burning are basically getting a blank cd... then i find out that the object which i have burned was copied and turned into an img on my harddrive, nothing on the cd. In the choose recorder screen i have just one thing, it says its the image recorder, and under adapter its the virtual device. Yet i remember that one time when it did work i had 2 choices, and this wasn't it.

Either its completely not reading my burning drive...which i think thats not it because i can run cd's and games from it... or its something obvious that i may be overlooking. Or even something that I wouldnt understand... hope you guys can help me out here
thanks in advance

have you got a virtual HD running (ie have you used Daemon tools)?

if so, you must disable it before you will get rid of this problem. even if you shut down Daemon tools, the virtual drive is still there and is messing up the path to the drive. to solve this, start Daemon tools, right click on the icon in the task bar, go to virtual cd-dvd rom>set number of devices>disable. then right click again and shut down the application.

you may want to reboot after that, but I dont think its necessary.

that should clear things up for you.
