Reg key needed, MS Office XP, Help........

Can someone please help with a registration key. The one on the disc someone gave me is not working.

I did use the temp version from Mircosoft, and it has expired.

Do I need to uninstall that first.

Did you call Microsoft and tell them the key that is on your CD isn't working? They will usually help out if you can get past the robots and offshore dialect.

Warf Rat:

Proceed with caution! If someone "gave" you the disc/key, it's likely to be a pirated version. Unless it is a microsoft disc, you may be asking for viruses/trojans to be "graciously" included with your disc. Asking for a key here is probably against The Rules here, also....

1) If you used the trial version, the key provided by your friend (assuming it's valid) may not be compatible with the trial version....uninstall the trial version and install from your disc.

2) Other than that, if you believe the disc/key given to you to be valid/legal, go ahead and call Microsoft....

Else, pony up the cash & buy yourself a copy of MS Office. You might also consider some of the open and almost-open alternatives that have been getting quite good in the past couple of years:

OpenOffice.org
NeoOffice (Mac)
StarOffice 8 (Not quite free, but for $69, it's priced right!)

Try Open Office. Google "Open Office," download it, and give it a whirl. For many MS office functions it will work fine. It's also backwards compatible with many office filetypes. Plus it's completely legally free!!

he is right, don't waste your time and money on buying or illegally obtaining Microsoft office when you can get open office free and legally.. in my opinion, it is better than microsoft office in alot of ways as well.. if you absolutely need microsoft office for legit reasons (school, work, etc), i'm sure buying it should be an option for you. alot of companies / universities extend deals to employees and students to get this software for either free or highly discounted.... but seriously, open office is great!

and in most cases.. if this "disc" your friend gave you is a legal copy, it is often illegal to install it on more than one computer between different people.
