Please help me pick out a tv tuner

Hey there...I want to get a tv tuner...

OK..First off I know that there is digital and analog tv tuners...I don't know which one I need...All I know is that I have Time Warrner's Road Runner Digital Cable...I wanna be able to watch all those many many channels on my PC and I wanna be able to record them...

NOW...does that mean that I need a tv tuner AND a PVR??? or just one or the other???

I know that the best Tv Tuners are Leadteck, Hauppauge, and ATI...I am going with Hauppauge

Since I've pretty much decided on Hauppauge then HERE is the list of their tv tuners and stuff

I want the BEST of the BEST for my system...System specs are in my sig below...Price is not much of an issue...and no I'm not getting an ATI 9700/9800 Pro AIW

THANX
C'YA ?:-D

I would go with the ATI, works great, and is relatively inexpensive, just like Steviencolumbus said.

I didn't want to get an AIW since they *cannot* record hdtv channels. - At least the 9000 aiw can't...which one is the BEST AIW??? Which one would I be getting???

ACTUALL what I REALLY want it the Holo3DGraph II with Fli2300 PCI Scaler card...it is TRULY the ABSOLUTE best of the best...BUT it doesn't have the best pricing...$895 bux is a bit TOO expensive...LOL

So IF I went with Hauppauge then which one would I be getting??? And someone plz answer the question about if I gotta get a tv tuner AND/OR PVR...THANX

I've got a Leadtek winfast deluxe. It's analog, but the cable company here (comcast in seattle) broadcasts both a digital and analog signal. Don't get as many channels (a mere 75 or so instead of hundreds) but I do get the ones I watch.

I picked it up at Newegg for less than $50 shipped, which was a big selling feature. Here's a link:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=14-122-132

Not the best, and not what Metallica_Band is looking for, but for everyone else it's worth checking out...

I also have the Leadtek Winfast Deluxe. I bought it off Newegg and love it. Just read the reviews on it, there are some special directions for installing it. Like you have to download the drivers off the website because the disk is crap. and some incompatability issues with Norton 2003. I highly recommend the card, even though the software isn't the best, but it will be better than anything else you can buy on the market.

Check out the AIW 9800. It understands HDTV.

You might want to go check out the forums at tv-cards.com and ask around.

I have an AverTV Stereo (very similar to the ATIs, uses same chip), which works well. However, it won't support digital.

happauge now has a HD tuner card.
Its not the card that people have trouble with, its having the right software installed.

No, you dont need the PVR if your using the tv tuner ona big machine with lots of harddrive.

Ya know, you can always burn your shows to dvd after you record then to the drive........

You will need a tv out if you dont already have one.
