SCSI

A client has a scanner that only has a SCSI connect. The laptop they want to hook to it will likely NOT come with a SCSI card. Is there any (reasonably cheap) way to go from SCSI to, say, parallel or USB? I assume I'll take a big speed hit from this.

Google is your friend. Search for "USB SCSI", there's a bunch of good hits.

Also since it's a laptop, there's also SCSI PC-Cards. Search for "SCSI PC-Card".

Speed is less likely to be a problem with either pc-card or USB 2.0. But I've never used a scanner with a laptop, sooo...

I've seen one of these for sale on a UK site. It's made by Adaptec. Don't know if they sell it in the US or not.

Another option, if available, is to go buy a new $40.00 scanner that will work with their laptop.

Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460 PCMCIA card. http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/pro...SI+for+Laptops $99 direct
New scanner, $40-80 at Staples or Office Depot.

Belkin once made a parallel-to-SCSI adapter that went for around $30. I had my hands on one once and was (surprisingly) quite pleased with it. IIRC, I only had a SCSI CD-ROM hooked up to it.

You can buy a new Canon USB scanner for $40-80 at Staples or Office Depot or wherever.

For those of you suggesting a new USB scanner, does that scanner do 40-50 pages/minute? We're talking a large volume of documents to be converted from hard copy to electronic in a short amount of time. The PC-SCSI card seems the best option. Thanks for your help, guys.
