A friend of mine has 2 dvd drives, one of them is a RW. He says that when he hooks them both up, the computer only recongnises 1 of them. He has them set up as cable select. I told him they may both need to be setup as primary on ide1 and 2 with his hard drive as secondary. Does this sound right? Anyone have any exp with mulitple dvd drives?

No, HDD should be primary on IDE0, and both dvd's should be on IDE1. set them to master and slave, with the dvdr as master. check for firmware updates for both, and look in bios to make sure it sees them.

I would not suggest the average user to do a firware update on anything............

Okay, he says that both the ides are open and that the hdd is a serial. He was master/slaving off ide0. He will try putting each dvd on their own ide. Thanks
