wireless network help
ok i have a netgear wireless router and 2 desktops with netgear wireless cards in them. also a laptop with netgear card. anyway, both the laptop and one of the desktops get really good connections, 1.9Mbps on www.2wire.com but the other desktop never gets anything above 300kbps. any suggestions?

I don't know much about wifi, but maybe you could setup an access point between the computers? How far are they apart?

What kind of wireless do you have 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g? How far from the Wireless router are your computers? Finally, do you live in an apartment building?

yes i live in an apartment. its 802.11b the computers are basically the same distance from the router (maybe 20-30ft). Router is in living room and computers are in each bedroom. the laptop gets good connection even when its next to the slow computer. gonna reinstall drivers and hope that does something

Update
I used a copy of Knoppix Linux i had and ran it from CD. In linux i get normal, actually faster than normal speeds. So that lets me know that the card is still good.... Now i gotta try and delete all windows drivers for it and install the new ones again. Anything else i should do? |
