Problem with new computer - Tilted Forum Project - TFP - Sexuality, Philosophy and Political Discussion

I recently bought new computer parts and received them this morning. I put everything together and then turn on the power. The CPU fan starts, but I can't see anything on the screen. After 5 seconds, everything stops. I try to turn the power back on, and nothing at all happens.

Any idea what happened and what I could do now?

Processor: AMD XP 2500+
Fan/Heatsink: Kingwin KCU-7015
Motherboard: Chaintech 7VIF4
Power Supply: 400W ATX12V (came with case)

Start by removing all of the parts, and putting them back in one by one until the behavior returns.

Also, you can attempt to go into the bios and set to 'fail-safe' settings.

Just be sure to ground yourself onto the chassis before you begin any work to help prevent static buildup.

i had this thing happen to me when i had a wire shorting out but that was a weird thing and most likely not ur problem. My bro was taken out hes CD drive and didnt remove that stupid wire that you hook to ur sound card and riped it clean out and 2 of thewires were touching. Didnt work till we removed that wire.

Make sure that the battery jumper on the motherboard is set correctly. Sometimes manufacturers disconnect the battery for shipping by moving the jumper.

Still not working.

The power supply doesn't work at all. So I tried to use an old one (250w) and it didn't work either.. Is it possible that the powersupply fried the motherboard??

anything's possible.

is the problem that it's not starting up? or that it's starting up and you aren't seeing anything?

if it's the latter, maybe it's a video card/monitor problem.

but, if you're sure it's not a video problem, then my money's on a short in the power supply.

time to RMA.

Yeah, it doesn't start-up at all.

So if the PSU fried the motherboard.. Will my processor and RAM be okay?

(sorry for all the n00b questions)

Sounds (smells) like your MB is fried.

Hard to tell, I havent had a mobo get fried before but i faintly recall that the ram and chip get fried also, dont quote me on that... if you can you may want to try your ram in a different box if you can
