removing permissions

I added a new hard drive to my computer and just moved my old main drive to a slave slot, thinking I could just pull the data that I needed off of it after I got my new drive up and running. Then I ran into the problem with permissions on the old drive, and it is keeping me from getting some files from my doc folder and it's keeping me from deleteing the old data. How can I remove all of the old permissions? I was running xp home then I switched back to 2k pro. Any ideas on how to get around them? All I know of if switching drives and booting the old one, but I already removed all of the window files. If I can't get the files off of the drive i'll just format it and completely clean it out.

You need to take ownership of the files/folders through advanced security.

The support forum applies for:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Will it still work if I try the same thing through windows 2k? I'm running 2k and trying to unlock xp files. I would try it out but I'm stuck at work for another 7 hours before I get a change to check and see if that method will work.

security in xp and 2k are essentially the same, provided you are running NTFS. offhand without looking at them side by side, I'm not sure if the layout of the tabs is exactly the same, but bottom line, you need to take ownership of the files and it is pretty much the same process to do it in both 2k and xp.
