Windows XP registry repair.

I have got the most insidious and annoying spy ware program running on my computer and I cannot get rid of it. It's something called Free History Cleaner. I can detect it with Spybot but It cannot fix the problem. The only option I have left is to repair my registry. Does anyone know of a good free registry repair program for Windows XP? I am going crazy. This thing sends pop-ups even if I do not have a browser open. It also blocks my searches from Google and Yahoo. Please help if you can.

Press ctrl+alt+delete and look at the different processes running. If you see one that does not look familliar, go to http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm and check to see what that process is. If it's something bad, click it and end process.

There's a few complicated ways to stop a program from starting up. What I've found to be the simplest way is to go to http://www.neowin.net/cgi-bin/files/...?file=startcpl and install that program (download will start automatically). The program adds an entry to the control panel and it can be used to control what programs start up with the computer. It's very easy to use (no need to check multiple startup locations) and any changes you make can easily be undone.

Don't you have to end the process evey time you start windows though? I need to change the registry key back to the way it was. I will try the links though. Thank you for the help.

Yeah, you'll have to end the process everytime you restart until you install the program (or search through the registry). I just said to end it b/c if it's a bad program, there's no point in running it longer than you have to.
