I haven't bought a DVD burner up to now, because to me, the idea of having to compress the video and axe the special features on a DVD in order to make it fit seemed a bit on the pointless side.

Now that Dual Layer DVD burners are out, can I just copy a DVD movie straight over, in the same way that I can do when copying CDs?

If you have the proper software. I don't know of any software out there that burns actual "movies" as in copywrited dvds, currently. I use an old version of DVD X copy (before they dumbed it down, no longer allowing burning of copywrite protected content). Of course you can use the multi-step method of ripping it onto your harddrive via decrypter or something and then copying it to disk. But yes most movies should fit on a dual layer disc with little or no compression.

However, dual layer media is too pricey to make it worth while, imo.

Should be able to....rip it using a decrypter..then I always used nero to burn......you just totally skip the compression/editing of the disc

The compression is not that noticeable on normal TVs I imagine if you had a HD you would notice it. Though if you have the money for dual layer media go for it!
