Is it possible to send HTML (graphics, etc.) emails via GMail?

Is Gmail strictly a plain text email sending web email client, or is there a way to send HTML rich emails?

I know it allows users to receive and view (via "Display External Pic" link) HTML rich emails, but I'm curious if there is a way to send them as well?

Thanks!

It does have a pop3 option - so you could send using an external mail client. I don't see any way of formatting via the web, and putting codes in the message does not work.

I asked Gmail this very same question a few months back, here's the response...

Hello Tom,

Thank you for your message.

You can receive messages containing inline images, and in HTML format and
rich text, but it is not currently possible to compose or forward messages
in these formats. If you receive a message in HTML format that seems to be
full of broken links, click 'Display External Images' at the top of the
message. Gmail disables external images by default to protect you from
unknown senders, allowing you to validate the source of the email.

We hope you enjoy Google's approach to email.

Sincerely,

The Gmail Team

How are messages sent from gmail? Is there an option to send messages with
links etc encoded in the messages etc - or are they plain-text only? I
prefer plain-text myself, but would like to know if there's a button
somewhere I've missed.

Cheers,
Tom

Great info, thanks!

I wonder if they have any plans to include HTML rich sending in the future, or if they intent to keep it simple?

Simple seems to be their style, so it wouldn't surprise me if they stay strictly plain-text, but I wonder if they intend to implement HTML sends after their service leaves the beta stage..
