XP SP2 Issues

I was just wondering how many of you went or are going to XP SP2..

I just recently built a new machine and am having "some" stability issues in Windows. This is of course usually during some serious multiasking.... But, with that said I have never had problems with windows lockups before.

New system.

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Socket 939
AMD Athlon64 3500+
1G (2x512M) Corsair CLS2 DDR
XFX GeForce 6600GT

Anyone else run into anything?

I've run into a few applications that won't install after I applied SP2. itunes and Sid Meier's Pirates being 2 of them. After trying everything under the sun I removed SP2 to do these installs and then added it back. A bit of research showed me that a very few others are having the same errors during installation but I never found a fix.

Installed on a laptop and a desktop. No issues. Although some functions seem to take longer - sending an email for instance.

Well after SP2 was installed on my comp at home, it managed to screw up the registry and make it so that I wasn't able to play Warcraft III anymore. couple other programs didnt work either.

I have rolled out SP2 to multiple systems at work. No troubles so far. I use SP2 on the laptop for work that I have. All of my other equipment has the latest from Debian testing.....whoa, wait a second. Yeah, scratch SP2, go load debian.

Have installed SP2 on both my laptop and home desktop. Haven't noticed any problems at all. Don't do any gaming, so can't address those issues. I do mostly business programs.

You should try disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

1. Click Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select System
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. In the Performance region select Settings
6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select
8. Click Add to add your bt client
9. Click Open
10. Click Apply
11. Click Ok
12. Reboot

Hopefully this works out for you.

I be using it myself. No issues that I've been able to identify, and even though I'm on
the computer all the time, the stuff I do with it is pretty light compared to other people
I know.

It is generally agreed that the best time to install SP2 is immediately following a clean install. I have had no problems with it and have not noticed a difference in load. Just remember, go SP2 after a CLEAN install.

Also some vendors are updating their drivers, specifically because of sp2, its always best to see if you are using the latest supported drivers.

My experience is that it's almost trouble-free for new installs beyond the diminishing software/driver incompatibilities.

Upgrade problems I've run into were almost in proportion to the installed system's age. Simplest method for old systems is to buy another drive, inststall there, and migrate everything.
