After installing the recent bunch of updates from MS, my computer feels like crashing every now and then. I get a blue screen with a STOP: 0X0000008E. Anyone else go through this? I googled "0X0000008E" and the ended up finding a trouble shooting page on Microsoft.com. Their solution relates to the RAM, but I haven't even touched my RAM. These crashes have been happening after I installed the MS updates. Any ideas?

The "Blue Screen of Death" originally were caused by memory allocation problems, and that is obviously a memory location. If your RAM hasn't changed before/after the updates, I would blame it on MS.. Sorry, don't have any advice..

What type of box are you running? That would help.

If you are running XP try a system restore back to before the updates and see if that helps.

I had a similar problem and had to reformat the whole Hard drive because I had some massive viruses.

Can you boot into VGA mode? Safe Mode? If so, remove the updates...

Once you get the system back, if one of the updates was Service pak 2, and you are running a Prescott processor, you may need a bios upgrade. There is info about SP 2 online, not sure where at the moment, post if you can't find them...

Was it the updates with Microsofts spyware removal tool? I've heard that causes some problems with some pc's.

Try what others are saying by attempting to boot into safe mode. Then remove the updates. If you have Norton Systemworks, try their goBack program. It supposedly works very well.

The updates made your computer smarter. It's now suggesting (forcing) that you switch to linux.

If one of the updates was SP2, make sure you remove it. It would be the first thing I'd suspect. As for the memory allocation, it's extremely unlikely -- but possible -- that a RAM stick wiggled loose a tiny bit.
