Question about my printer - Tilted Forum Project - TFP - Sexuality, Philosophy and Political Discussion

This morning our power blinked on and off, maybe 5 seconds. Now my printer won't even turn on. Could it have been effected by the power outage even though it was so short? All of my computer things are plugged into a power surge protector outlet strip and nothing else seems to have a problem? Is my printer dead now? Do I need to get a new one? I checked all of the power cords and it still will not turn on. I hope someone can help me.

my first guess, was a surge.. are you sure your power surge protector is still good.. thats the only thing I could think off.. unless coincidentally the power button on the printer is like jammed... I'd say, if your still under warrenty to return the printer. If your out of warrenty take it apart and look for a jammed power button..

Thats All I can think of.. but your probably best off buying a new printer.. seeing how most printers are sold cheaper than the ink for them

Surge protectors are not good forever. So even if you do end up replacing the printer, I suggest replacing the surge protector too. Also, here's an idea. If your printer has an external power supply, buy the same model and swap out the power supply. If it fixes the problem, take the new one back with the bad power supply.

Interesting idea wyodiver33. I would have never thought of doing that.

If it was the surge protector, wouldn't everything else that was plugged into it be having a problem too?

After much searching, I found the user manual for my printer. It said if the printer is plugged in but does not turn on, that it probably got too much power. It said to unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in. I thought I did this last night. But I did it again, leaving it unplugged for a bit longer. and it worked! I am so relieved and yet, feel so stupid for not looking for the manual yesterday.

Not necessarily. There are any number of reasons why the printer toasted. Maybe there was a pre-existing flaw in one of the circuits that was finally pushed over the edge.

Don't forget to look into whether or not your surge protector had any type of 'guarantee'. I have no idea if you could actually get money out of them, but at least try...ya never know.

oh, well that's cool. Care to mention the make and model of your printer so that others searching for similar problems find this thread?
