I have been looking at webcams and such recently. I am looking for one that I can get close to streamming speed but without it blurring or looking fuzzy. I would be willing to sacrafice a little bit of spped for good quality. Thanks for your help.

There used to be a thread about this...maybe the old TFP.

Anyway, you won't find a webcam that will give you equivalent quality of 300 Kbps streaming video. Even if you hooked up your video camera to a real-time encoding card, you'd have problems with 100 Kbps streams because of your upload speed. Most cable and ADSL users have 128 Kbps (max) upload speed.

Your upstream bandwidth options get better with SDSL or T1 circuits - if you have the dough.

The first suggestion i would have is to not buy a cemera with a CMOS type sensor, make sure it has a CCD..... CCD are more expencive and take more power but have a MUCH better picture..... I have always had and like Intel cams but they are no longer made........

I have a Logitech QuickCam Web. It takes pretty decent 640x480 stills and works well on my dialup.

if you want to spend the money find the what used to be the 3com home connect webcam. it's distributed by a different company now but it's a good cam (about 150 bucks). otherwise look at a quickcam 4000. if you want to spend more money, buy a digital video cam (300+ bucks) and hook that up with USB or firewire.
and a lot of cable modems do 250 upstream.

I have the 3com Homeconnect. Its a great cam that produces very good images for a webcam. It is also very good in low-light situations. There is even a lens pack for it (wide angle, closeup, tele). Theres a drawback, though... 3com's cam is discontinued.
The primary manufacturer is Vista Imaging found here http://www.vistaimaging.com/ . The cam is called ViCam. You might be lucky enough to find a distributor that may have some still in stock. Check out the site for details if youre interested. Good luck.
