Hey,

I'm not sure if this should go in Gaming instead.

I'm wondering if anyone else here uses Cedega, a program/environment that allows you to run certain windows games under linux. My pocketbook is dictating to me to use CVScedega instead of the other version, which costs $5/month to use. However, I read somewhere that you still can't run some games using CVScedega, because certain direct3D drivers aren't included with it - say this isn't so !

Anticipation is building for the time to play counterstrike on linux !

I've used CVS cedega before. It was OK, still didn't work for the two programs I downloaded it for (Monkey Island 3 and 4

).

I believe the difference between CVScedega and cedega is that the pay version comes with some code to emulate copy-protection. Not sure about the whole direct3d drivers thing, haven't heard about it before.

Counterstrike's a pretty popular game, so I'm guessing there are plenty of resources out there for getting it to run on wine/cedega. From a quick google for 'counterstrike linux -server', this came up, which looks pretty useful.

I tried it with the Xandros 3 distro. Along with the GUI p2p with little luck. I think they tend to "hype" the website to entice ppl. I did get steam going, took about a half-hour to install, but HL2 ran very poor. GoodLuck to you if ya get it.

just telling you the wine project in some respects is getting ahead of cedega (cedega uses an old wine fork before it changed license) might want to try vanilla wine with monkey island
