video card Q
if i buy an 8x AGP card and install it into a motherboard that has a 4x AGP slot, will the card work?? also.. can anybody recommend a good nvidia card w/ 128 vram for cheap?

It's unlikely.
I think a good card for you would be a GeForce 4 Ti4200. 128MB RAM, mine was very nice. No dice on the BF2 unless you're up for a little hacky-hack .... which is a lot easier than making it an AGP 8x slot ![]() |

Most 8x cards will work fine in a 4x slot. You might notice a small performance hit if you turn up the resolution really high, but otherwise it will be fine. I know that a few models do NOT work in a lower AGP format but it's really the brand and model that determines it. Check out my videocard guide at the top of the computer section for advice on what videocard to buy in your price range! Sorry for the hit-or-miss advice, but it is truly luck that determines if it will work. I'd stick to a 4x card until you can upgrade your motherboard.

I spent $100 on my TI4200 when it was relatively new and it's still considered a good card. I don't use it anymore, but to save some dough I'm putting it in my 'rents new comp .
Good advice Las, but definately, it is, as you said, hit or miss in this case :-( |
