bad shutdowns

I know it's bad to shutdown your computer by just pulling the plug, which is why i never do it unless i have to.

On that topic, when my comptuer is shut down improperly, IE a thunderstorm knocks out power(happend last night), i have to start in safemode, and do a system restore, Onlt a minor inconveince, but i would still like this to not happen.

When i start it up any other way, i get to my desktop and it's on like a 2 minute delay. when i right click it takes way to long to produce the right clikc interface thing.* Im wondering whyt his happens, and what i can do to stop it

* the 2 minute delay is not a exxageration, it's that long most the time, if nto longer

I think you should look at processes and see what is starting when you right click.
Might be that Explorer or another program is looking on the net for something.

One possibility is that (though you didn't say what version of Windows you were using) XP is doing a memory dump to disk due to the improper shutdown, and so the system is running slow while it does that. To check, right click my computer, go to properties, advanced, startup and recovery settings, and see what it says under system failure.

There really isn't any reason for a complete memory dump - generally just a kernel memory dump or small memory dump is sufficient.
