Deleting history from computer, completley
My computer at work has been accessed several times at nigth after I go home. I don't know who is doing it, but they are going through the websites I visit routinely durring the day (TFP, MySpace, BBC News, etc.). I would like to know how to deletre the history out of Explorer completly, so that even someone with knowledge of code and windows cannot go through it. I don't want someone posting under my sn here or on MySpace. BTW, I was told by upper, upper, upper managment that I could do what I want during my free time, including surfing the web (I never look at porn or anything of the sort at work, so it's not innapropriate or anything). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Steps I have taken so far: Deleted histroy from Explorer browser gone into Control Pannel, Internet Options, and cleared history there Deleted all my favorites from Explorer and signed out of TFP and MySpace downloaded firefox and hid the alias in a folder, now intending to use this as my free time browser I know these steps will only fool a 'noob', but it's all I know.

Microsoft's Really Hidden Files
Mind you, I believe the index.* files have to be deleted before Windows starts up, or at least with a boot floppy/CD image as they are considered "in use" while Windows is in memory. You might want to try browsing with Firefox (which includes extensions that can wipe your private information with one button click), or using a program like BCWipe/or BCResident that actually includes functions that encrypt the swap file (which contains traces of memory dumps including saved URLs, images, addresses, generally anything in RAM!) as well as completely obliterating files by overwriting them many times with random bits. Obviously, log your computer off at night and change your password regularly. You might want to also prevent filesharing so that users cannot simply navigate to your PC and snoop around your files that way. =/ Of course, if people aren't this nosey, forget I said anything =)

Make sure you don't set Firefox as default browser. If you do--
"Internet Explorer is not the default browser.." etc will show up when snoop goes to do their aforementioned snooping. What you've done thus far will go a long way..also, put the firefox "History" setting on 0 days and it will never record visited sites..

Explorer is still my default browser. Firefox now has no history. I also checket out the DOS way of erasing the history. That's really complicated. I wish we had Macs at work!! Muchos gracius! I'll give it a shot.

You could also try setting your cookie history to expire after the browser closes. It'll be a pain to re-enter passwords every now and again, but your cookies would be gone from your browser. =)

Oh man, it's beginning to look like my boss (the C.E.O. of the whole company) is the one doing it. Maybe I'll check out craigslist jobs, then delete it from my history. Thanks for the help.

I use ultrawipe to delete temp internet files/temp files/
history/cookies http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ultrawipe.html for the index.dat files that windows won't allow to be deleted Index dat suite is great http://support.it-mate.co.uk/?mode=P...index.datsuite If that doesn't work you are most likley being logged If it is your employer logging you, that is their right to do so though they should inform you they are doing so.

The reason I'm mifed about it is that company policy (including computer rules) are set by the C.E.O. and the board (including yours truely).

Take a book to work for a few weeks.
Set a power on password in your BIOS.

As one of the watchers,
you could log your own computer. that way you would know when and how someone was accessing you teriminal. At least you would know if it is your boss...(his prerogative) or the night cleaning crew...(tear them up )

The new release of Firefox (1.5) has a Privacy Manager. Go to Tools / Privacy, and at the bottom is a Clear Private Data button. In there, you can select what information gets deleted when you exit Firefox. Very nice, it'll cover everything on your specific computer. It won't help any logging that gets done elsewhere (say, on the server). Make it a point to hit Ctrl-Shift-Del when you get up from your computer, and it'll clean tracks right then as well.
You could also put <a href="http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/">Firefox on a USB thumbdrive</a>. Also Crap Cleaner will run on startup and clear other things.

alpha phi,
A very helpful individual Who spices up Tilted Computers By providing assistance in free verse! (sorry, I couldn't resist) If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear. Disable automatic log on of all of the sites you visit to make sure nobody posts as you, don't do any sensitive transactions at work (ie, online banking) and just let it be. Or that's what I'd do, anyway.

you could also change your desktop to the prntscn image of your desktop, then move your icons to a hidden folder & hide the toolbar. this is a prank you can play on other people, but it could also limit someone from "using" your computer because it would appear to be frozen. they may or may not be able to figure out what was going on.
