iPod shuffle problem

I have a relatively new ipod shuffle and I am having a problem with it, and I'm hoping that someone here may know how to help me.

When I plug the shuffle into a USB port to charge, a box that says Unsafe Removal of Object pops up. It pops up ever 30 seconds or so until I remove the shuffle. The problem is, the shuffle won't charge, even though it is in the USB port. I have 4 ports, 2 work. I've tried both ports and the box comes up each time. I've successfully charged the shuffle once before and I don't remember which port I used. This was given to me as a gift, and apparently the warranty expired before I even received it, so I can't get help from Apple unless I purchase another warranty (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr). So...does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks muchly!

Well, I don't know how I can help you from a software standpoint, since I assume you're running Windows.

Can you still put different music on it?

If the only problem is that it isn't charging, Apple does sell USB chargers, which is just a little white brick you plug into the wall with a USB port that you plug the shuffle into.

Maybe it needs usb v2 and you are plugging it into a v1 port? Or your usb ports dont have all the wires hooked up. I did that once and they worked, just did not have any power going to them.

i'd go to an apple store and have the genius bar take a look at it; they'll do a preliminary at no-cost (usually)
