Paintball guns
While not a weapon, I figure this board would be the best for asking.
I'm looking for the best in terms of accuracy paintball gun and am wondering if anyone has any experience in this to give some advice. It doesn't have to be a 'replica' type that looks cool, and low maintenance is a major plus.

Price range?
I've never been more hurt then when I got shot up by a Spyder. Tippman is not great, but incredibly reliable and durable. Most places rent out Tippmans, because they're cheap and long-lasting.

Tippmann 98 Custom. $130ish. Defacto paintball slinger. Add-on parts make it pretty good. Get a Spyder if you have a lot of money to waste.
What kind of games do you play with them? That'll be the difference. ... Wait... I don't think you should own a paintball gun. They're a gateway weapon... ya know. Pretty soon you'll be hitting me up for Uzi suggestions.

I think it depends on what type of games your playing.
If your playing in the woodsball id say Tippman A5 or X7 with a good barrel. If your playing indoors or speedball it really depends on your price range, you could spend a few hundred and get a Spider or spend a litte more and get a Dye/Proto PMR, Smart Parts Ion, Inver Mini, etc.... or if you have a large budget go with a Dye DM7, Smart Parts Shocker, EGO, Angel, etc.. |

A friend of mine won't shut up about his Dye DM7. I think it's like $1500 though.

I'm a huge fan of Tippmann markers, personally... I bought a Spyder once after succumbing to the hype and it just felt cheap to me, especially when firing. I returned it and bought a Model 98 (back when they had gills, before it was the 98 Custom) and started tinkering away.
The '98, custom included, is a real tinkerer's dream. It's very robust, and you can do a TON of shit to them to make them perform beyond well. You can expect with practically any marker that you'll need to get a new barrel for it, out of the box - that's just how it is, because there's so much variation in paintball size and quality. There are some barrel sets that have varying sizes of internal bore, so you can match up your barrel with whatever paint you happen to be using. Tippmann also invented the flatline barrels, which are very interesting to use. They're oversized in terms of bore, and curved such that the paintball is forced to roll along the upper surface of the barrel, inducing a backspin. When the marker is held vertically, the paintball travels in a much flatter trajectory than normal, with an increased range. You can also hold the marker sideways or upside down to shoot around obstacles or induce a dramatic drop I've personally hacked my frame all to hell, because it's cast aluminum, and the clamshell design of how it's put together works especially well for modifications. If you end up getting one, make sure to say so and I'll post my marker/what I've done/what you can do to yours ^_^ With a good barrel and good paint, the accuracy is fantastic. One suggested mod in the beginning is a rear velocity adjuster, so you can control spring tension as well as the stock adjustment of how much gas is allowed to the barrel. There's a supercool one that's a rear cocking kit, as well as velocity adjuster. I want it, bad. -m00t!

I started with a 98 Custom and moved up to the A5 last year. Except for a busted o-ring putting the a5 out of commission for a month, it's been great. I have a J&J Edge barrel system for speedball and a Flatline for woods. I also got a double trigger and a response trigger. It really needs compressed air instead of CO2 to work well without freezing up.

For less than $500 you can get an Automag in many different varieties. It is the best designed paintball gun ever, and the best working if you live in a moderate climate (not great on CO2 if you live in the colder states). 'Cockers aren't bad either, but you have to know what you are doing time them properly. If you can see your breath, you are probably better off with a Tippman. That or buying one of the above mentioned guns with a CA tank rather than CO2.
Electronic guns are for pussies.

+1 I've also got a Desert Fox, by ICD - same action as the automag, and a really nice marker. The action is very efficient, but as you said, works best on CA. I still prefer my '98 though. Too much time with it and some mother's mag/al polish will do that to ya - maybe it's the fumes

My brother owns this store. Let me tell you, these guns are bad ass!! Go the the store and the marker page, check out the ak47 or a similar gun. they are insanely fun to use.
http://www.warheads.ca/ ![]() ![]() These guns use a smaller paintball and they are stored in a clip. The CO2 goes into the butt of the gun. Nice tight package, very accurate as well. ![]() Or you can get a gun like this. Regular hopper suck ass. I suggest purchasing a Q loader. They look like this They hold the paintballs in a closed spiral pattern that runs parallel to the gun. This is much better than a big awkward hopper than could potentially lose you your paintballs. The loader pods are also incredibly easy and fast to swap out, so if you like to go through your rounds you can load up several pods (100 rounds each) and put them on a vest or strap them to yourself. ![]() Last edited by blahblah454; 01-09-2008 at 06:12 PM. |

Damn you, XM-8. Where ever did you go off to? Was it something we said?
