I have a S&W 1006 with Federal HS in my nightstand. Wish I had nightsights on it. Or even better a Pistol mounted light.

The AR is two steps away, and my Sig 1911 is in my desk. I think I'm pretty safe.

kir stang... now all you need is a good shotty and you will be all set. My m4 is just as close as your ar. I have no night sights on it, but that is because it is just for room defense.... meaning I lay it across the bed an just squeeze the trigger if i feel I need it.

Kimber Classic 1911 with 3 mags of Golden Sabers. Unchambered, because for some reason I don't like the idea of going to bed with one in the pipe on automatic guns. I do have a j-frame on my computer desk that's always loaded though, and an ak-47 nearby.

I have a Mossy 500 downstairs, in case I come home to find someone rummaging through my stuff--however, I am not nearly as familiar with the Mossy's manual of arms as I am with the AR. Need to spend more quality time with it.

Something is seriously wrong with that piece, bro. I fired it like six times at a 15" target at 7 yards and couldn't hit shit. You should get that thing looked at sometime soon if you're using it for home defense. It's gotta be defective.

Unless you've got something with real caliber, why bother?

You just need to find a nightstand big enough to mount it on.

um... I have a load of books, and right now various things intended to ease tootache. And when Im asleep, my cell phone (which doubles as alarm clock)

However, in the spirit of what I think is the intention of this thread... most of us probably DO have something near the bed that you plan to use if you need to deal with a situation in the middle of the night. I have a length of welded copper piping which is about 2 and 1/2 feet long and is kind of the right weight to swing with one hand.

Im not saying Id necessarily hit someone with it if they broke in (and my house had been burgled twice in the last year)... but having the option cant hurt. Its not likely that anyone that breaks into my flat is gonna have a metal, but if they have a knife or a screwdriver I think this trumps either. Oh, and I also have a cheap claw hammer by the bed.

Two days after I last got burgled I did get really nervous one night, and when a kid kicked my bins down outside I ended up charging out the front door in my boxer shorts waving the hammer about... bit over the top but I reckon the kid got a bit of a fright, he had it on his toes pretty sharp anyway.

Walter, I'm trying to construct a story that makes sense of all of those items. I'm failing.

I don't have a nightstand. My wife does. I do have a baseball bat under the bed. My daughter received it at a minor league baseball game. I'm not sure how much good it would do against an intruder.

Yeah, my nightstand, until recently, was a TV box covered with a sheet. I don't think it would have held up all that stuff. I do have a pair of cuffs just like those, lots of duct tape and a craftsman hammer. Personally I don't care for that brand of tequila and not sure I'd care to don a gas mask again. I can't see leaving all that stuff on my night stand. Currently I have a battery operated lamp and an A/C remote.

Will- the only problem with that thing is that it costs about a $1.50 per round, but on the upside you really only need one round to let someone know you are serious. Thats almost worth the money on the pucker factor.

I was thinking that particular weapon would be better suited for protecting the next neighborhood over than my house. I wonder what the kick would be like without mounting it....

My real nightstand has a copy of Guns, Germs and Steel on it next to an empty glass of water.

If I am ever involved in a shooting outside my home while carrying concealed I don't want to give the prosecution or anti-concealed carry folk any more ammunition by saying that I use hollowpoints specifically with the intent of killing. I use regular 180gr. soft points. It's a 45 so I still have plenty of knock down power.

Well if you are a big ole boy, and shooting prone then prolly not much, but if you are shooting off hand, then I hope there is an old hardwood tree you can lean against. but seriously though I would have to shoot it at least once just to say i have. Recoil prolly actually wouldnt be all that bad, since I bet the booger weighs a pretty good amount.

I like where your head is at but there is no reason you can't rock hollow points in a home defense/concealed carry weapon. I do in mine. I just stay away from hand loads as that could get a bit tricky in a legal situation.

Should I ever have to stand before The Man and have to explain my choice in ammunition I will just point to the box it came in. It says its made for "personal defense".

Oh and I don't shoot to kill. I "shoot to stop" the bad guy from continuing to pose a threat.

On the ammo question; I carry a .40-calibre 155-grain loading, manufactured by Winchester-Olin, known as "Ranger." It's the Meanest, Nastiest, Ugliest, Mother-stabbinist, Father-rapeinist hollowpoint I've ever seen. And it's manufactured only for Law Enforcement. We're just lucky enough to catch a few cases per year from contract overruns. I kid you not, this thing is -hideous-. It's also what all our local LEOs carry, plus several Feds we're acquainted with.

I would -love- the chance to defend such a suit in court. "But Your Honor, I was only carrying exactly the same bullet as every Police Officer and Deputy in the county, and for the exact same reason! To defend myself from criminal attack!"

But then, I have the good fortune to live in a relatively sane State when it comes to guns...relatively.

Here's the chest in the 'man' room. There's also a Bushmaster M4A3 16" in the corner.

The Kimber Warrior is a non Series II (no firing pin safety) Kimber 1911 .45 ACP with rail, ambidextrous safety and standard military guide rod (don't have to have a tool to take it down). It's available in two variants, the Warrior and the Desert Warrior.

Very nice Kimber there. I bought my Kimber because it doesn't have the FP safety as well.
